Two Prominent GOPers Ask WH To Disclose Contents Of Ukraine Call

Nah, Graham probably had to give too many mulligans in the last round of golf with the cheater, so he’s mad and getting back at the cheater, publicly.

A person like Mr. Trump was never supposed to be able to become POTUS.

And then neither will do anything to see that it gets done. They feel like if they say they want it, that’s all they need to do.

Easier to get comfortable with the spoils if you don’t know from whence they came.

Well, if he’s no longer in office, Trump could finally be charged with obstruction, and there’s a decent chance he wouldn’t be sentenced until after the election, so Pence wouldn’t be able to save him there.

I think what they failed to envision was Mitch McConnell and a Congress stymied by a political party that would protect it’s leader even at this level of corruption.

They already know - they’re complicit. So having the ‘truth’ come out - is damning to them. It’s not a ‘lack of interest’ - it’s an ‘apparent’ lack of interest.

They are in fact, colluding/conspiring to keep the truth hidden.

We already know Pence was involved, if not at the heart of it all. He met with Zilensky in Ukraine a few weeks ago, and the subject of that withheld aid was on the table.

MEANWHILE…The New York Times continues to double down on what it considers the most important part of this–implicating Biden in his son’s drug use…

I personally give them more credit. The declaration and constitutions were written with some very specific, if not now culturally arcane, wording.

Things like ‘well regulated militia’ and ‘high crimes and misdemeanors’ - had meanings back then - that have been twisted by people in the current century. For all their talk about ‘original intent’ - the Republican’s are the worst at misreading the intent of the founders. But then, they’ve got a history of misreading the Bible to stand on as well. So… par for the course.

I think the founders understood that through time and history, humanity has had it shortcomings. And those faults and frailties were seized on by dictators and wannabeee dictators. There are tools in the constitution for dealing with them. The very structure of three EQUAL branches, and the power of impeachment - are clear.

But the Con’s can’t seem to remove the mote from their own eye.

Maybe these 2 “prominent” Republicans need to go to the source for the release of the phone call(s)- the President of the Ukraine, at least with him it will be the whole story. Or any of the other nations and/or hackers listening in.

“Would hope” and “Appropriate” weasel words. I think it’s a stretch to say Graham asked the White House to do anything. Romney came closer.

Standard CYA messaging indeed. We’re not far from the use of the passive voice “Mistakes WERE MADE”… to let them off the hook.

Governor Bill Weld was calling for the death penalty this morning on Morning Joe for treason. Meanwhile, Adam Schiff says, “we may have to impeach the president”.

Talk about contrast!

Totally agree. We learned that lesson with Bill Barr’s “summary” and the onslaught of administration toadies competing for biggest bullshitter on the TV talk shows.

They will lie, continually and shamelessly. They’re already bamboozling the MSM with lies about how it’s really Biden who’s corruptly involved in Ukrainian politics. It’s 2016 all over again. They haven’t even got the brains to change tactics.

Very good point. The framers were remarkably thorough in their attempts to safeguard against a regal presidency, so much so that the Constitution protected the Republic all the way through Nixon. Just like today’s plutocrats learned the lessons of the government reaction to the Depression to build a corrupt infrastructure untouchable by law, today’s Republican party learned from Watergate how to abuse power with no consequences. Can’t blame the framers for that.

Ha ha ha!!! No actually, they’re weaselly enough to start registering a mild disapproval for now, so they have some fence-straddling comments to dredge up just in case the whole thing goes kablooey.

What they really hope is that they can just smooth it all over and keep the grifter train moving without further incident. Actually defending the Constitution - per the oath of office - is the LAST thing they’re trying to accomplish here.

Exactly. The framers anticipated the appearance of lying assholes, because of course they’ve always been around.

They had higher hopes for the integrity of the people - that’s where the shortcomings lie. (remember there was some real concern around even the ‘notion’ of PARTIES existing in the political discourse.)

I take a certain amount of comfort in the quote by Jefferson: Yeah, they knew what might happen.

Of course, if Pence is a co-conspirator, he will not be able to pardon crimes in which he was involved.
