Tulsa Mayor Shares Anxiety About Upcoming Trump Rally In His City | Talking Points Memo

Tulsa Mayor G.T. Bynum announced that local officials would not block the Trump campaign from holding its rally at the BOK Center on Saturday, despite his own anxieties and increasing criticism and fear that the rally could exacerbate the city’s already mounting roster of confirmed COVID-19 cases.

“I can tell you is it’s all a work in progress,” Pence said.

“You know how we are, we just make it up as we go along and hope something works eventually,” he added.

So this is G.T. Bynum vs. (the orange) P.T. Barnum.

Since nobody has gone broke underestimating the intelligence of the America public, and there’s a sucker born every minute, I’m going all-in on the circus act featuring clowns and an orangutan that flings its shit winning this one, unfortunately.

“As someone who is cautious by nature, I don’t like to be the first to try anything.”

Don’t worry. You’ll be far from the first person ever to tell Chiselin’ Trump to fuck off.

Well, it’s just part of Infrastructure Weak, where Donnie will improve Tulsa rush hour traffic flow by killing off drivers.

Well Mayor, if you can’t find the intestinal wherewithal to call this off you are going to have to deal with the consequences.

They will all be bad.

This is insanity. In the midst of a rising wave of infections, they’re going to hold a large rally indoors with people yelling and screaming without any masking requirements or enforcement of social distancing.

Is it the Coronavirus’ birthday? I’m afraid there’s no way I can match that present, so I’ll just stay home and healthy.

Maybe for the memorial to the Tulsa dead, he could get the architect who did the Murrah Building memorial?

You know the mayor is GOP but a really decent human being. He is the one who has ordered the disinterment of the mass graves from the Tulsa Massacre to try to identify the dead and to count them because there isn’t a real number. I saw him interviewed on 60 Minutes and I couldn’t believe he was GOP. He doesn’t act or sound like it.

He ought to take a stand here.

Another entry into the book of Republican Profiles in Courage. All is take is voicing doubts. It doesn’t take any action. If it did, it would have no more then a handful of entries.

Hard to say no to a million people. I suppose at least some of them might not be TikTok users.

Hey… he’s a Republican… who gives a shit about his anxiety… He brought this on himself

I saw him interviewed on 60 Minutes on Sunday and he doesn’t sound like a Repug at all. He’s a decent guy.

As Mayor he can order it to be cancelled.

I’d love to see him greet “Gran Cabeza Naranja” wearing a mask and rubber gloves, or better yet boycott the event altogether. He’ll take one for the team though and risk his health and life as well as his family’s to appease his Overlord.

Don’t worry Mayor, be happy.
Trump will stop all testing so no one will get the virus.
This will be a perfect rally.
