Fox News host Tucker Carlson is billed as a speaker at a far-right conference in Hungary on Saturday, according to a flier for the event. The appearance will come days after the Fox host met with the country’s Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.
Besides all the 5 star travel arrangements, I’d love to know what his “honorarium” is going to be.
Think of modern day Budapest as Berlin in the early 1930s.
So when I was last in Budapest giving a talk at Central European University, Orban was in the process of trying to force CEU to move to Austria and forcing other universities to either self-censor or close. And the government is opening a new university for the elites, Mathias Corvinus Collegium, which is basically and unapologetically a propaganda mill, indoctrinating the police and civil servants in Orban’s mantra – if you oppose Fidesz you are a communist Roma-lover in favor of opening the borders to immigrant terrorists.
Independent educational institutions are a huge threat to authoritarians. That’s why Xi, Erdogan and Orban spend so much effort bringing them into line. Tucker would of course be happy if Trump U were the only alternative for college in the US – his ratings would go though the roof.
The Fat Orange Fuck seems to have emboldened all the Fascist assholes. They’re not even bothering to hide it anymore. The only thing missing are the uniforms and armbands. They already have the flag from either 1865 or 1945.
Antony Blinken just called. Your passport has been cancelled. You may not return to the US. Please call the nearest US Embassy for more details and possible assistance. In person visits will require vaccination and wearing a mask. If you call, current wait times are upwards to 360 minutes. Please stay on hold during the call.
Yes I was wondering why Hungary stays in the EU? Is it because by staying in the EU then Orban stays as the head honcho? I mean it’s not like Hungary butts up to Russia, or Belarus? Putin would have to jump over Ukraine to get to Hungary. And what can Hungary offer Russia and Putin?
Liberal democracy is under pressure everywhere, and Tucker is prominently one of the people throwing in his lot with the other side. He doesn’t seem inclined to pretend otherwise. People who’ve done this in history are remembered, if they’re remembered at all, as a shabby, shameful bunch. You have your Oswald Mosleys, your Vidkun Quislings, all those, all the royalists, anti-communists, and anti-semites who weakened England and France between the wars. Not remembered fondly.
