Far-right conspiracy theorist Alex Jones requested a new trial in Connecticut on Friday to scrub the eye-popping damages ($965 million, to be specific) he was ordered to pay out to the Sandy Hook families in their defamation lawsuit against him.
If onlyâŚ
OT, but recently I have been musing about the âAxis of misogynyâ. The Chinese Communist Party surprised observers by appointing no women to the Politburo (The only female member retiredâŚ). Most of Americaâs autocratic geopolitical opponents are ruled by countries with no women in positions of power: China, Russia, Iran, (Saudi Arabia?). If I am correct, North Korea actually has 2 women in postions of power: Kim Jong Unâs sister and a member of the foreign service.
Conviction could prompt the government to bar the Trump Organization from doing business as a federal contractor, including cutting off the spigot of Trumpâs lucrative â and critics say exorbitant â billing of Secret Service agents who stay at his properties while protecting the former president and his family.
Maybe this is a good thing, but I found myself reading the MM and, when I got to the end, I realized I didnât care about any of the stories reported. Not sure if I felt them inconsequential, more of the same or just not relevant. Maybe thatâs a good thing - the world is still spinning.
âTucker, Hunter Biden is on line one.â
IIRC, Jones forfeited when he effectively refused to take part in the trialâs procedures (i.e., discovery, depositions from witnesses, cross examination, etc.)
Can he get a do over of a process he lost because he wouldnât cooperate in whatâs normally done because he doesnât like the damages?
Iâd certainly hope not.
[Alex Jonesâs] lawyers described the proceedings as a âmemorial service, not a trial.â
I foresee the day when the legal writing class every 1L has to take will include a unit on determining just how much hyperbole a judge will tolerate. Or, perhaps, how to determine which judge (lookinâ at you Judge Cannon) responds well to this linguistic bullshit.
I StaND wiTH BucKLEY. I LiKLEy sPEAk for ALL of US here.
Let the fun begin!!!
âBIG MISTAKE!â: Trump drops Truth bomb after DeSantis endorses GOP candidate he disavowed | Washington Examiner
That candidate is Joe OâDea, the underdog Senate contender in Colorado who is trailing Sen. Michael Bennet (D-CO) in public opinion polls and last week made waves when he vowed to âactively campaign againstâ Trump and spoke favorably of other party heavyweights, including DeSantis.
Sharing the article written by Washington Examiner senior political correspondent David Drucker on his Truth Social platform, Trump added a brief message. âA BIG MISTAKE!â Trump said in all capital letters.
Fox News host Tucker Carlson (a champion of the antiâelites)
For an anti-elite, Carlson sure has a lot of mojo in elite circles. How many here would have a Congressmanâs ear?
Pardon my french, but what kind of an elitist fuck names their child âBuckley?â
A guy who was the President of the Dan White Fan Club in prep school.
I stand with Betty Buckley!
PeOPle whO LIke the NAme buckley asLO like the names:
Atticus, Donovan, Barrington and Jackson
Dontcha just LOVE IT when people with proximity to power pretend that Congress is some dirty cesspool that they refuse to swim in â but do a cannonball if it means establishing âinfluenceâ. OF COURSE Buckley Carlson was hired to influence his father! I may have been born at night, but it wasnât last night! Bow Tie Boy may have all the credulous cretins on his side, but if it walks like a duck . . .
We need to see the contents of Buckley Carlsonâs laptop.
You know⌠the thing that is so fscking weird that I can barely stand it is that weâve trained the very people that inflation helps to think it hurts them. I mean, a stable economy is not bad, but if you want to own your own house, for example, then, really, thereâs no better way than to borrow expensive dollars today, to do that, and then pay 'em back, over the next few decades with cheap, crappy dollars. Itâs a huge win for consumers. Huge.
I know, inflation is potentially lethal to folks on a fixed income; I get that. But, mostly, you should understand that you should never get into a situation where youâre on a fixed income. (Donât buy fixed annuities⌠theyâre a very bad bet. Very bad.)
And, while Iâm on a rant, what the fsck is up with everyone screaming âRecessionâ? Inflationary economies are the exact polar opposite of recessionary economies. Rising wages, and labor shortages, (i.e. full employment), do not equate to a recession, they donât inevitably lead to a recession. And a âbearâ stock market is simply a bear stock market⌠it means almost nothing in real life. (Indeed, experience has long since proven that investing during a bear market is one of the best ways to turn money into actual wealth.)
