Understanding this is the golden key to understanding American conservative politics since Nixon. This is Rick Perlstein’s completely persuasive thesis in Nixonland. So much liberal and left response to the right in USA still consists of outraged fact-checking, or rational explanation of why and how wrong the latest bit from the right is. This misunderstands the right totally. Polarization, victim-blaming, stoking grievance, are their mother’s milk, and they really don’t care a godamn about facts, truth, or reason. They ignore fact-checkers and mock rational explainers as elitist snobs.
In short, at least since Nixon (or Goldwater) the American right has been a disloyal opposition. They view the rest of us in the most polarized terms imaginable–as traitors, perverts, communists, Nazis, whatever. Our bottomless and collective evil justifies their lawlessness and criminality. Until the rest of us come to understand we will fail to respond effectively to the American right.

This, and countries in Africa, is all about the so-called religious right, but in truth it is about money. These pastors had their congregations buy them jet planes, and you have to ministry somewhere right - particularly in anti-gay by religion countries - and why not mineral-rich nations that still kiss American ass?
Orban is just about getting white countries on-board so the US hard right can imagine they are a world force. So many douchebags.

And you can see how good they are at code-switching just by glancing at the front page story about immigrants and COVID.
Trump holds a super spreader event at the White House and numerous guests are infected. Adopt the old, rational, paradigm and repeat: “we can’t know for certain how the guests were infected.”
An unverified story about an immigrant family in Texas who are sneezing? Adopt the new, guilt-by-association, racist dog whistle paradigm and insist: “Immigrants are responsible for all cases of Delta variant, everywhere!”

What I have found too is the intelligentsia, who might be expected to object, are still traumatized by the persecutions of the communist era, when they were a colony of the USSR. For that reason they see Orban and the Church as “better than the alternative,” which for them are the current version of the communists. Talking to them is frustrating — they perceive themselves as living with a set of alternatives outsiders cannot understand, but to an outsider it seems like a too-convenient lack of imagination.

For over a century, the GOP has had many illicit passionate affairs with various strident right wing fascists, Nazis and neo-Nazis - some lasted longer than others - some of the lovers were more intense and violent than others … but the common factor was that the GOP would for a time get ridiculously smitten with these vermin…
It is like herpes - and in the case of Carlson - count on it always being in bloom!

It’s not just Swanson heir Carlson attending neo fascist gatherings hosted by Viktor Orbán. You have Orbán fan boy Seb Gorka proudly wearing a WWII era Hungarian fascist lapel pin while acting as a presidential advisor and commentator.
David Webb the tea party leader and right wing talk show host who happens to be Black has also gone on these Hungarian soirées, we can only assume what the likes of an Orbán think of him.
Imagine if a few congress members went on a junket, (years past they used to do them more frequently) or fact-finding mission to say Cuba to check out their biomedical research programs. Or Portugal to praise their drug decriminalization policies. You can be assured that the likes of Carlson would go ballistic for several news cycles.
