ICYMI, Republicans’ irritation with Sen. Tommy Tuberville’s (R-AL) months-long military promotion blockade blew up on the Senate floor last night, as a handful of Senate Republicans tried to hold a series of individual votes on nominees to bypass him.
Tuberville happily embraced Stafford’s fall on the sword.
It’s the same rope-a-dope we got from TRUMP / McConnell. Nobody’s guilty of anything because the intent and the action were inside different people, and hey it’s not like it matters anyway because now they both disclaim it entirely!
Paralipsis is gonna get people people killed until we invent a way to hold people accountable for what they accomplish with it.
Since “Coach” seems to be the high point of his life, it’s a shame he was dragged down into less prestigious work. I’d sure like to see him repeat his spectacular stairway stumble on his way out of the Senate.
I might add that if you were to call his office, you would hear his voice saying, “This is Coach Tuberville,” etc. (I wish I could type a redneck accent that would give you the complete experience.) I always tell him that if he is going to represent me as my senator, I’d appreciate it if he referred to himself as Senator. I hate him.
obtained an email this afternoon that Tuberville’s communications director Steven Stafford sent out from his Senate email address on October 26, urging the recipients — reportedly anti-abortion groups — to help spread the word that any Republicans who help Democrats bypass Tuberville’s blockade would risk primary challenges. The note is couched in phrases like “in my opinion” and it doesn’t say that the senator had signed off on the correspondence, according to Politico.
Apparently John McEntee has been laying the groundwork for marital law. From emptywheel:
Johnny McEntee (who even before January 6 was making a willingness to invoke the Insurrection Act a litmus test for hiring at DOD)…
This makes it sound like he only let DOD hire people who were open to using the military to kill Americans who resist TRUMP.
McEntee is a Koch agent. One of his main jobs under TRUMP was to drive out civil servants so they could be replaced with dyed-in-the-wool Koch loyalists. So, he’s awful, and we’ve known that since before 2017.
The part that’s really shocking is that this is proof that Charles Koch would be fine with a military junta in the United States. I assumed he was willing to help Pinochet enslave Chile because it was a useful opportunity for his chief legal sophist (James M Buchanan) to try his hand at writing a national founding document to permanently enshrine the wealthy as rulers. So, like, an academic research project.
But no. Koch is willingpreparing to kill democracy by literally murdering Americans who are pro-democracy.
A federal jury in Manhattan deliberated for less than a day before finding him guilty on all seven counts. He faces more than 100 years of possible prison time at his sentencing—which is set to take place in March.
