Trump's Vile Remarks on Rob Reiner's Death Prove a Bridge Too Far For Some GOPers

Shocking Even For Him In the wake of President Trump’s “inappropriate and disrespectful” remarks — making what appears to be a tragic double murder of director and actor Rob Reiner and his wife Michele about himself and his political foes — Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) challenged his Republican colleagues and the White House to “defend”…

The thing with Trump is he has no couth. It would be too polite to call him uncouth. Couth and Trump are polar opposites.

“This is the last edition of Where Things Stand until the New Year, as I, and various other people who assist in this newsletter’s production, take breaks for the holidays.”

I am one who will miss the catch up with the news.

I know you all work hard and deserve a break, but a three week break?

Massie is one of the only elected Republicans who has been consistently willing to criticize the president. But Trump’s Truth Social post about Reiner was so deranged that others are speaking up.

Is that all…speaking up? What are they going to DO about it? This is just as bad as the so called snake ‘story’ at his Christmas gathering yesterday (Sunday).

Very optimistic to assume that the US will survive for three more weeks under the Trump regime, but enjoy your well-earned break!

I’m also a bit taken aback by the long year end break by Where Things Stand. This is still a news site isn’t it ? Are there no staffers to rotate with ? As a long time Premium Member I am very disappointed in this decision

My late father would have said the First Felon ain’t got no couth.

Outraged Republicans: “Sure, he raped a couple dozen women, stole everything in DC that wasn’t nailed down, cut off incredibly-cheap but live-saving medical aid to kill children around the world, took bribes to pardon murderous mobsters, and wants to overthrow 250 years of democracy to be Dictator for Life…but posting something mean about a celebrity death is UNACCEPTABLE!”

That’s what you get when you save up your vacation time and work it in between multiple holidays!

Where Things Stand is normally M - Th. So 7 vacation days plus 4 holidays (Christmas Eve, Christmas, New Years Eve, New Years Day) I am making an assumption on the holidays, but it’s a union position and thought I recall that from last year.

If you’re at the funeral for a well loved person, with the seats filled with grieving friends, family and acquaintances, and suddenly a wild-haired ranting individual slams open the doors, runs to the front of the service, jumps up on the bier where the open coffin sits, drops his pants, and takes a shit on the body’s face…

…what’s the appropriate response?

(This might be a metaphor.)

Just when you think it can’t get any crazier, it does smh

What good is it to be part of an organization that treats its employees ethically and gives them time to spend with their loved ones (or alone if they choose, it’s none of my business), if they don’t make use of that time?
I enjoy the catch up at the end of the day too, but perhaps this is my sign to spend a bit more time spreading joy at this time of year.

“Most Americans want more and better from our President.”

Most Americans want a completely different President, but, Republicans insist, Trump is the kind of President people really want.

I, too, ama long-time premium member, and as lean as that shop runs, I’m fine with them taking a couple of weeks off around the holidays. They’re not under obligation to provide us content 24/7/365.

If you want the news for the next two weeks that would be covered by TPM, here’s a breakdown for you:

  • Trump will be an ass
  • Hegseth will probably lose more fighter jets or do something boneheaded
  • The Epstein files will or will not be released
  • More asshattery from Trump
  • The cost of living and health care will either keep inching up or jumping
  • Trump will do more jackass things and say nasty things about people

Hope that tides you over!

Nobody has TDS more than Trump.

Wishing and hoping, perhaps, but I think it’s possible that a lot of people will find this particular vulgarity and cruelty a bridge too far. I was feeling ‘off’ all day yesterday, and I think it was in reaction to just how horrible and brutal and senseless the killings were, but also how utterly heinous and unnecessary Trump’s reaction was. These were good people, whatever their liberal beliefs.

That’s the key point here: TPM runs a very lean shop. Remember when Kate got married and the pod disappeared for several weeks? In a lean shop, you have to be ready to pick things up in case some one is hit by a bus (literal or figurative), but everyone needs down time and this is a good time of year to take a little down time.

I’m happy to support the work Josh and the crew do. Part of supporting that work is accepting that TPM isn’t (and probably can’t be) a 24/7/366 operation. Our great-grandfathers had to learn McKinley was assassinated and TR was President by reading it in the newspapers a day or two later.

If you want to see TDS, go to his rallies. His followers are the ones who are deranged.
