As pessimistic as I was about Trump II from the start, the reality has been far worse than I imagined. I believe that one aspect of this foreign adventurism is to test the compliance of the military. If an actual, sustained shooting war happens in Venezuela, they will invoke the Insurrection Act. If that country doesn’t take the bait then we’ll go after Cuba, or Colombia, or Greenland. Eventually there will be actual resistance amounting to what Fox, the NYT and the Post can call a war. Then they’ll invoke the Insurrection Act. If all else fails, they’ll follow the @sniffit scenario and incite or manufacture an “incident” in Minneapolis. Or Phoenix. Or New York. But they’ve gone way too far to turn back, they’re taking off the mask (rhetorically, although not physically in ICE operations), and they can’t let us hold free elections in 2026. I’m in that dark place now where I do believe the Insurrection Act is coming.

The military will follow orders. They did in the illegal attack of Venezuela and the kidnapping of Maduro and his Wife. Nothing in my experience leads me to believe that military leadership will balk at further illegal orders.
