Donald Trump’s administration has openly crossed a big red line — one we’ve been tracking for some time now, as Trump and his allies openly question the judiciary’s authority to block Trump’s various lawless executive actions. The Trump administration had already slipped out of compliance with some court orders blocking executive actions, but up until…
Now the entire convicted felon’s administration is doing a five year old tantrum. ‘I don’t care what mommy said, I will do what I want. So there. Try to make me do otherwise.’
I wonder what Roberts court will do.
What I love about this whole charade (sounds better with the Brit pronunciation) is that the Tough on Crime gang is throwing the (alleged) criminals out of the country, as opposed it trying them, convicting them and making them do time here.
Perhaps they are not criminals?
If there are any lawyers around here (txlawyer?), can y’all comment on whether it is legal or even possible to actually arrest the president? For what, you may ask. Well, there are or will be a few possibilities:
- refusing to comply with an order
- violations of law, repeatedly (see 1)
- acting generally deranged and cuckoo-bananas
Yes, I’ve heard of the theoretical concepts of “impeachment” and “25th amendment”. Both are irrelevant in the current situation, however.
Lock up the officials who refuse a court order. That’s what would happen to me if I defied a court order.
Apparently, it doesn’t matter what the Roberts court says, if Stephen Miller doesn’t like it. I suspect they’ll carefully deliberate and find a way to put a fig leaf on Dear Leader’s unconstitutional actions. And all the wrong people will find that sufficient, and carry on locking up and/or deporting whoever they want.
John Roberts and Chuck Schumer made themselves irrelevant by ceding the authority of their branches to an out-of-control Executive.
Democracy goes out not with a bang but with a couple of well-fed white guys who couldn’t be bothered to the do their jobs.
They can’t use the convenient “separation of powers” dodge because they are one of the powers at issue and I don’t think the Court is willing to follow the GOP legislature in ceding all its power to the executive branch.
From an October 16, 2000 Memorandum Opinion for the Attorney General:
In 1973, the Department of Justice concluded that the indictment and criminal prosecution of a sitting President would unduly interfere with the ability of the executive branch to perform its constitutionally assigned duties, and would thus violate the constitutional separation of powers. No court has addressed this question directly, but the judicial precedents that bear on the continuing validity of our constitutional analysis are consistent with both the analytic approach taken and the conclusions reached. Our view remains that a sitting President is constitutionally immune from indictment and criminal prosecution.
Tom Homan bears a striking resemblance to Benito Mussolini.
Those who declare themselves above the constraints of the law should be considered outside the protections of the law as well.
Literally, an “Outlaw” administration.
What a blowhard and a thug. He puffs himself up and declares he’s BORDER CZAR and then hides behind Trump…
I think that he looks like Fred Mertz…with apologies to William Frawley.
The corrupted court answers to only one person–Antipope Leonard Leo. And Leo has made it clear he’s all in with Fascism.
If I’m not mistaken that’s part of the infamous MEMO from the DoJ when Nixon was in trouble. There’s a similar one from when Clinton got a blow job.
What the fuck do we have a vice president for?
ETA. Forgot to add, it’s a fuckin’ MEMO.
It’s amazing that the only judges they want to impeach are those who stand up to Shitler. It’s enough…he’s out of control, and breaking the law every day. This can not continue.
Impeachment is a farce also. They can impeach as many Judges as they want - they can’t convict them because they don’t have 2/3rds of the Senate.
As to the right remedy for all this activity - I hope Weissman and others are recording all this illegal stuff in real time. Trump is only in office another 3 years and 10 months. The Statute of Limitations is five or ten years. Only Trump is immune for his official acts - nobody else.
Behind closed doors the Democrats should let every one of these moron minions know that if and when a hard ass like JB Pritzer gets into the big chair, ALL of these assholes are going to jail, because it’s easy to convict guilty criminals and much harder to indict or convict the innocents. We the People will make up the Grand and Petit Juries of the future and the FINDERS OF FACT and We the People will not be so easily fooled because in the jurisdictions that count, (WDC, SDNY, etc.), the jury pools are not filled with MAGAt morons.
If you illegally kidnap someone, or order their kidnapping, from a state, it doesn’t matter who gave you your orders, you can still be a criminal in that state. Do we know which state these various people were abducted from? What do their governors and attorney generals think about people kidnapping folks from their jurisdictions?
Not yet. Is he upside down?
