A lot of things happened. Here are some of the things. This is TPM’s Morning Memo. Sign up for the email version. In yesterday’s edition of Morning Memo, we unpacked the various ways in which House Republicans have, since President Trump arrived back at the White House, repeatedly demonstrated to him that they have no interest in…

When President Ronald Reagan was trying to justify massive cuts on social programs, he would often invoke the so-called welfare queen.

His rhetoric focused on an imaginary American — typically assumed to be a Black, single woman — who was living large on the public dole.

And make no mistake, the people that many of these cuts are going to hurt the most are the white, rural voters who backed Trump in the last three elections.

There’s a persistent myth in American politics that poverty has a single face and that face is usually Black, often female, and somehow responsible for her own hardship.

That myth was not born by accident. It was crafted, polished and weaponized. It was built on decades of policy choices and political messaging that added racial overtones to programs designed to combat poverty among all Americans in an effort to erode public support.

Happy Fourth? Um . . . why?

I mean, the date has been stripped now of its significance.

I’ll be awaiting Bastille Day here in France on the other hand. France’s Revolution was a cut above ours . . . (wink wink, nudge nudge) . . .

“We met with President Trump, and, you know, he did a masterful job of laying out how we could improve it, how he could use his chief executive office, use things to make the bill better,” Norman said Thursday morning. “We accepted the bill as is. What’s different is President Trump is going to use his powers.”

House Republicans are acknowledging that they are irrelevant and unnecessary, so they should all resign to save the country a lot of money by cutting the waste, fraud and abuse commonly known as the GOP.

Different era, different fight against a different autocrat. My wife and I don’t celebrate the 4th as such, except for an excuse to eat hot dogs. But I refuse to let Trumpism ruin the holiday and what it stands for.

When I was a kid it was more special because my Dad was born on the 4th of July, so it always meant birthday cake and fireworks. Took me a few years past the toddler stage to realize the fireworks weren’t just for him.

“These signs are part of an ideological/social movement which started in Twin Cities, Minnesota following the 2016 election of Donald Trump."

Where the f*** did that come from? The push for equality started in Minnesota in 2017?

Major brain worms.

Just like it says in the Constitution, Article Negative Eleventy-one: “Congress shall accept bills as written by the executive as they are. Rubber-stamping shall be automatic.”

During 7th grade. I’m waiting to start of the day & kids were crowded around the still locked entry door to school. A kid held a firework in his hand & set it off. It blew off a lot of his pointer finger, part of his thumb and part of his middle finger.
