The sad part is - the audience agreed with him and went forward to do it without the Act. The determination of the sentiment that day led to several deaths and more injuries. The whole thing was needless.

Yes, I’m sure Trump was hoping that they literally would hang Mike Pence, so Trump could then readily invoke the Insurrection Act.
Just because they were Trump supporters who’d be hanging Pence is beside the point. Once activated, nobody knows what the military would have done.
One connected thread is to see if Trump, Meadows, Eastman, etc. were in touch with military leaders who would follow the orders to wreak havoc. One obvious place Trump would send troops is into polling places to “secure” the ballots. It will be interesting to see if the Jan. 6th committee has a thread to pull on here.

No, he published an anonymous article in NYT while he was still inside, followed up with an anonymous book shortly after he left DHS in 2019. But he didn’t go public until shortly before the 2020 election.

Uh, right. What insurrection was happening in December? Was he just talking about the fact that Biden won the election and the EC was going to be certified in January? I guess you have to call that an insurrection if the idea is to invoke the Act, but it still sounds stupid.
And this sounds like a distraction, since Trump never went there. There were a hundred inane ideas they threw against the wall to see what would stick. What matters is what was actually followed through on.
