Despite the toll the last year has taken on her, Carew on Monday remained defiant. “I’m leaving on my own accord,” she said. “I’m the one who wins in the end.”
What’s needed here isn’t defiance and fake bravado, but for Carew to sound the alarm on democracy. The more election officials that can do so, the better the chances people will head the warning.
No, the will to do that has increased a thousandfold over last year. It’s state-level resistance that has been the problem. If a few local bullies with one sheriff popped up and got immediately swatted down by the state, these things would never get far. When they get recast as Our State Leaders Taking Our Side Against The Feds, that’s when the stupid selfish ideas get widely supported.
Once again I will point out that the city clerk Lang has no idea how to run an election. She will therefore require more money from the county to hire more people to help her with her county duties and now election duties.
Another thing that these yahoos didn’t think about is that Carew had built up a relationship with the poll workers who staff the polling stations. Will Ms. Lang be able to come up with enough trained people to keep the current level of polling places open?
And yes there is an up coming election in TX which Ms. Carew will handle, but looking at the TX SoS website the next state wide election will occur in March of 2022 (?).
On Saturday, after blasting the four-county audit plan as “weak,” Trump threatened the speaker of the Texas House of Representatives with a primary challenge if the speaker didn’t advance a bill that would allow audits in more counties.
Why isn’t this fucker in jail yet? I’m looking at you Merrick Garland.
For truly transparent elections, they will want to make sure that every vote is cast in the open, not this furtive “secret ballot” stuff that might allow someone to, you know, vote their conscience without fear of repercussions or anything. And the votes should be inspected, so we know they’ll be counted right. And the way we know it was “right” is that the correct guy gets 100% of the votes.
You know, kind of like the way it works in certain other places.
I know I shouldn’t feel this way but comeuppance has always been a favorite word of mine.
I hope for a challenge of how County Clerk Lang runs the next election that she’s totally responsible for. And yes I know that Hood County went 81% for Trump, but running a shoddy election is a result one getting in over their head.
Which leads me to ask if one is an elected official at the county or state level, then how can one run for elected office while serving as an elected official overseeing elections? Kemp vs Abrams come to mind, so have we figured out a way to keep these situations on the up and up?
The thing these GQP cultists DON’T get is, none of them WILL EVER be MAGA enough to not have the other followers turn on them eventually. None of them. No one.
No matter what they say or do, sooner or later they’ll end up being executed by anti-aircraft guns.
Trump is putting real effort into helping R’s keep control of Texas elections because demographic trends and population growth from relocation tend to favor D voting.
