After touting a seemingly doctored map on Wednesday of Hurricane Dorian’s forecast path that erroneously showed the storm possibly headed for Alabama, the President dug in his heels on Thursday.
Also he tweets out graphs from days before his original tweet to backup it up. If you want to play that game he could still be saying Alabama is in the path of the hurricane, hell why not just show charts of previous hurricanes.
I truly feel the Trump will be a one term president. The public is exhausted from all this nonsense. Trump looks the same as day one of his presidency but the country has aged many years from him.
Trump is a stubborn idiot. In this instance, it’s not (just) that he gets this so horribly wrong or that he continues to stand by his wrongness (which is to be expected). It’s that 100s of millions of dollars in resources and support could be assigned to the wrong place, putting in jeopardy the lives of thousands.
It’s okay to be stubborn. And it’s okay to be an idiot.
But it’s not okay to be both.
And it’s the worst thing to be both and be president.
It really is like having a toddler as president. And Eric is the toadying toddler to the other toddler.
But one thing I wish would happen when stories like this arise (and they seem to arise 2-3x a week) is that the media come to recognize the inevitable pattern of defensiveness and petty argument that Trump and the Republicans start spewing each and every time.
1: Make stupid statement
2: Get called out on it
3: Double down
4: Get called out on the doubling down
5: Complain about the fake news
And that’s where it seems to end every time, as an impasse between the reality-based community and Trumpworld, and it ends up being cast as merely a difference in opinion, and not as it should be, as a difference between real-world minded people and mentally disturbed people who are unfit to govern.
If we are lucky Donnie two scoops will continually obsess about this, distracting him from everything else until he is defeated and turned out of office.
Sometimes, I think there’s something really wrong with Trump. Like he’s, you know, maybe suffering from some kind of profound mental disorder, maybe even more than one.
But then I say “Nah! If the president of the United States was suffering from some kind of profound mental disorder that affected his ability to do his job adequately or called his mental stability into question, surely the MSM would be all over it, because that would be like, a huge story. It would be something that would be at the very center of every story about him doing things that seem to deviate from the norm. I mean, they’d be consulting with experts, talking to aids about it on background and reporting out anonymous sources saying they were worried.”
So, obviously, these seemingly abnormal behaviors that might seem concerning to some are obviously just amusing but inconsequential foibles like GHWB’s fractured syntax or GWB’s nicknames or Bill Clinton’s penis.
Oh, wait, Bill Clinton’s penis was a world historical crisis. I forgot. But it’s reassuring, really. Because if the MSM and nearstream media ever covered Trump’s foibles as behaviors that were as serious as Bill Clinton’s penis or Hillary’s emails, then we’d know we had a serious problem on our hands.
Going back to Thursday to support a totally inaccurate tweet about Alabama he made on Sunday when much more was known about Dorian.
I thought he cancelled the trip to Poland so he could stay here and “monitor” the hurricane. I always assumed that “monitor” would include getting and paying attention to and understanding (at least attempting to understand) updates on the hurricane. He might as well have been out on a golf course all weekend.
