Donald Trump still has not indicated one way or the other whether he plans to attend the first Republican primary debate next week, put on by the RNC and Fox News. The event will almost certainly be entirely about him whether he’s there or not.
It would not surprise me—at all—if Trump chooses to surrender himself on August 23. He’d then take over the entire news cycle that day with its wall-to-wall coverage of the fingerprinting and mugshot.
And then Trump goes straight from the jail to a giant Trump rally that runs—and here I’m just spitballing—from 8-11 p.m. EDT.
Fox will carry the debate and all of the other networks will carry his rally and you tell me which would get the bigger ratings numbers?
The GOP debate will be fun! Watching however many candidates stand there trying to show off and make their pitch that they’re the one Republican voters should back-but w/o pissing off the Trumpers. The drama will be how to talk policies when the absent front runner has no policies he’s promoting-except for himself.
One advantage Pence has is that he can grab all the coverage of the debate by saying something newsworthy about Trump’s involvement in Jan 6th, being that Pence was central to the whole thing. He could really come at Trump hard on that.
DeSantis’s debate prep manual as found online (!) by the NYT today advises him to defend Trump from attacks by Chris Christie or others because of the indictments. DeSantis is still not willing to confront Trump even in absentia on the Big Lie conduct.
First day on the job, you know what I learned? How to spot a murderer. Let’s say you arrest three guys for the same killing. You put them all in jail overnight. The next morning, whoever’s sleeping is your man. You see, if you’re guilty, you know you’re caught, you get some rest, you let your guard down.
Kirsten Sinema wants Joe Biden & Tommy Tuberville to find middle ground.
First let me say that Kirsten needs to fuck all the way off.
Okay now that I have that off my chest, why on earth is she turfing that decision to two men? That’s one of the main problems with the whole issue of reproductive rights.
I don’t like trump as a man aside from politics so I will avoid seeing him on TV. I have shit loads of CD’s ( movies and programs) thst he is not part of.
I refuse to look at trump if I can avoid it on TV
Shorter WSJ - will no one rid us of this orange menace? Interesting to see they don’t have a candidate, just a vague handwaving that angry yam can’t beat Biden (who is in obvious decline, apparently)
That’s the problem with going on a bender: all your problems are still waiting for you when you get back. The day before TRUMP rode down that escalator, the GOP had no promising candidates, no ideas, no energy. Now that TRUMP is too busy being eaten alive by his own comeuppance, the GOP is left with no promising candidates, no ideas, no energy.
Oh, and half the party is facing criminal charges because they tried really hard to make these dismal election things a relic of the past.
Trump looks weak right now. He has formally run away from his presser idea. He issued a video begging his rivals to drop out and unite behind him. He has no clear response to the Fulton Co indictment. He’s not showing up to his party’s debate. Every poll I’ve seen that produces internals shows the Dems making incremental gains among both college white voters and non college whites. Among college whites, Biden is outperforming his '20 exit poll stats by close to 10 points. He even has a slight incremental gain among non-college whites.
We’re really just waiting on the trial schedules. If Smith and Willis get what they want, he’ll be convicted by the spring.
