The emergency facility at NRG Stadium (Houston Texans) was closed in April since the city (and state) did not see the surge other East/West coast cities did.
Once The Medical Center facilities are at peak (Iâd estimate approx 2 weeks)-- Houston at the least has a plan and the experience to expand medical care for COVID19 cases.

This is an excellent pointâŚTrump actually did have something to say in 2016 that fed into a lot of the problems in the US. His populist appeal really was there, mixed in with the racism and awfulness but it did attract some people. He actually had something to say that was different from the rest of the Republican party that spoke to a lot of poor, white people who felt underserved by the party (even without the racism).
He turned around and governed like a regular Republican though, and that really didnât help the people he energized. Heâs kept a lot of them going through the racism, but enough have dropped off (like women in the suburbs) that heâs really in danger of losing badly. Now is the time for him to come up with something, and they started that with âKeep America Greatâ, but thatâs pretty much toast now with everything that has hit and, especially, his mismanagement of it. He now canât point at anything and say itâs better, or doing great, at least not without lying (which he will of course do), and people can feel that. If we really charge forward into a big spike of the virus, itâs going to hit the economy much harder than if it was one hit (which is why Republicans have started saying another stimulus may be necessary). Many more dead people, many more businesses crashed, and a flailing presidentâŚthe Republican party is heading towards self-immolation and they donât even seem to realize it as they double down on Trump.
Itâs a little over four months to the electionâŚthatâs a long time, something could change, but it sure feels like they are going to nerf it this time, badly. The cost in lives and livelihoods will be large though, and unnecessary.
