Trump Wants Wall Built By Election Day, Encourages Officials To Break Law If Needed

Note the WH official did not say trump was joking about taking the land, just the pardons.

Encouraging law breaking in the Oval Office. Hmmm, one would think that’s impeachable wouldn’t one?

Typical modus operandi for the most craven: get someone else to do the illegal deed so that your own filthy hands don’t look so dirty.

The important question is whether the people he’s asking to break the law understand that he can’t pardon people for state crimes.

I’m guessing he keeps forgetting that little detail.

This vanity wall, the one that he’s usurped the powers of Congress in order to steal money from the DoD and FEMA, is it the one Mexico is going to pay for or is it a different one? Is it the invisible one that you can see through so Mexican drug smugglers can’t catapult drugs over the wall and injure revelers on the US side or the one that’s painted black so it’s too hot to touch? It’s so hard to keep track anymore.

This isn’t the first time he has made this sort of comment. Nor do I expect it will be the last.

So no, he is not joking.

There are no laws or limitations dictating the conduct of leaders of nations now. Xenophobia and fascism are the goals, and in general the populaces of various countries have gladly signed on to the cause. Fear of others rules, especially once convinced those others are stealing from you, holding you back, displacing you and marginalizing your religion, culture, customs and values. Allegedly.

How is that not a criminal conspiracy?

He’ll soon be trying to suspend Congress a la Boris Johnson and wonder why he can’t. But, who knows, if it’s up to the GOP, no problem! By the way, today is the anniversary of the tan suit, that disgraceful and horrifying episode in our history. If only Trump would wear a tan suit …

The pardon power seems problematic, even when used sparingly. But presumably the assumption has always been that it should be used after the event, not to solicit or encourage criminal acts.

That would be the commonsense view, anyway.

Is this the Great Leap Forward or 5-year-plan?

I think that’s a bit of an overstatement.

However, what IS happening is the application of constraints has become as asymmetrical as our political system.

Suffer under no delusions that once a Dem is in the WH, the republicans will rediscover all the powers of the Legislative Branch to reign in a President that they have completely abdicated under Trump.

Pretty sure it’s considered not quite the thing to offer multiple pardons for crimes done on your behalf before they’re committed.

Not only am I not a lawyer, I’m not a political consultant whose powers of prediction are legendary, but generally in life this kind of doubling and tripling and quadrupling down with higher and higher risks being taken is what you call a death spiral born of desperation.

This is exactly why his supporters love him despite the fact that he and his daughter-wife are Putin’s whores. They deliver and get things done.

The Democrats in Congress on the other hand just watch and read all the beautiful English legal words the toothless Bob Muller wrote over and over and do nothing. Nadler, Pelosi and the Democratic leadership are busy attacking Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez, Ayana Pressley Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib and ready to label them.

I, for one, think it a bit near-sighted of the founders not to include some sort of clause in the Constitution for a president so flagrant about breaking the law. If only they had put in some sort of process for that.

RE pResidential pardons:

Many legal and Constitutional scholars have said POTUS can’t issue a pardon to cover up a crime.

While that seems logical on its face, it’s never been tested in court, perhaps because it’s never had to be.
