A lot of things happened. Here are some of the things. This is TPM’s Morning Memo. Sign up for the email version. DOJ’s Darkest Era Matt Gaetz as attorney general. Todd Blanche, Trump’s personal attorney, as deputy attorney general, the second in command who runs the Justice Department on a day-to-day basis. Emil Bove, another of Trump’s…
Good morning, Darr. Hope you’re feeling a bit better this morning.
I expect some sort of initiative to be implemented. A hotline or whatever, where people have an avenue to report any neighbors, family or co-workers doing or saying things disloyal to Trump.
Not snark.
Workin’ at it…
I hate to say it, but my instinct is to disengage and wait until people feel the real results of this idiocy. And yes, I know I will feel it too.
It is a crippling mix of incompetence, disregard for the rule of law, conflicts of interest, and divided loyalties that would send the Justice Department down a flawed and uncertain course seen perhaps only once before, in the darkest days of Watergate.
It’s a signature President-Elect move. America was warned and it still said he’s just saying this stuff to get elected. He wasn’t serious.
It leaves in further doubt whether the committee’s completed report on now-former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) and his alleged sexual misconduct will be released either publicly or to senators considering his nomination to be attorney general.
C) None of the above.
On Thursday evening, Hegseth’s lawyer Timothy Parlatore said: “This allegation was already investigated by the Monterey police department and they found no evidence for it.”
That settles that.
Let’s Not Fool Ourselves About Senate Republicans
It may not matter if the Senate goes into recess for the foreseeable future. These candidates will take office, one way or another.
Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL), to fellow senators: “Vote with President Trump, this is the last chance we’re going to have to save this country, and if you want to get in the way, fine, but we’re going to try to get you out of the Senate, too, if you do that.”
See above.
He sees the president-elect’s appeal in terms of something more primal: “Trump promises that you don’t have to think about other people.”
That conforms to most of the selfishness and self-centeredness we often see among the MAGAts. This isn’t new, but dead-on accurate.
- AZ-Sen: GOP nominee Kari Lake is still not conceding that she lost to Rep. Ruben Gallego (D).
I don’t think she’s conceded the governor’s race from a couple of years ago. This is standard Lake behavior, so no surprise.
Thankfully, I’ve a six-hour shift at the store today where I will be confronted periodically with MAGAt regalia with the occasional dope expressing the glee that prices are finally dropping. [sigh]
WaPo Pitchbot:
“We did absolutely nothing to inform people about the ecconomic recovery happening, inflation falling, low unemployment, historic drops in violent crime, and oil/gas production being higher than ever before. We are now frothing at the mouth to give credit for these things to someone who wasnt in office yet and is actively pushing policies to destroy the nation and hurt the American people.”
Alex Jones is being put in charge of Head Start.
Bush the Lesser set up something like that after 9/11. It was even called TIPS, I think. Big uproar in Congress when they found out. So it went underground and got a new name. I wouldn’t be surprised if a kernel of the organization still exists ready to spring back to life when the situation warrants (in the eyes of those that keep the flame alive.)
If she were still in the House there is no way Democratic leadership would allow Tulsi Gabbard to be on the same floor as the Intelligence Committee.
Workin’ at it…
Do or do not. There is no “workin’ at it”.
Can’t say I blame you.
They don’t even need to go all Stasi, what with almost all communication using the intertoobz. I’m sure the keywords are all set up.
