“I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn’t lose voters,” then-candidate Donald Trump declared on the 2016 campaign trail eons ago.
And this, my friends, is the end of the line of decoupling beliefs from reality or any external factor. Which is where we were headed. Final stop on the train of America as a great nation, time to get off.
CNN held a roundtable of what the network described as “swing voters” from Pennsylvania
I think CNN needs to work on its definition of “swing” voter. Maybe it’s just me, but when someone tells me that under absolutely no circumstances will they vote for anyone other than their preferred candidate, that is not a swing voter. She maybe from a demographic that includes swing voters, but she is not a swing voter.
Couldn’t agree more. People suggesting that they might (probably) be ok with Trump shooting somebody doesn’t seem to me like somebody liable to potentially vote for somebody else in 2020.
While Trump has not literally shot anybody (so far), there have been plenty of stories since 2017 that demonstrate how Trump’s malignant policies have very definitely harmed his own supporters- with them often expressing shock and amazement that they would wind up on the receiving end of his cruel and unjust policies.
Trump voters worship him - unquestioningly - - Trump simplifies their lives - - he tells them who is good - - and gives them legitimacy for all of their hate for the people that he & they see as “bad”
Dave Chapelle, who can be funny but too often punches down, was recently awarded the Mark Twain Award. This quote nails why we’re in this predicament:
“I make fun of poor white people because I was once poor. The only difference between a poor white person and a poor black person is that a poor white person feels like it’s not supposed to be happening to them.”
The politics of grievance and resentment in a nut-shell.
Hell - I’d vote for Elizabeth Warren if she would promise to shoot somebody. I just want a damned President who will shoot somebody, anybody on Fifth Avenue. You tell me - is that crazy?
