The President’s latest wave of pardons on Tuesday — primarily benefiting, as usual, his political allies — was a little more on the nose than normal. Why? Because of Paul Pogue. The construction company owner served three years of probation for tax fraud, having underpaid the government $473,000.
If Trump is re-elected it is going to be an even worse disaster. If he loses, what in the hell will he do from election day to inauguration as a parting shot to democracy, decency, and the nation? I shudder at both prospects. FUBAR!
And since when does a homophobic, former Senator who lost his election by a wide margin and who now sells himself as a Republican pundit on CNN have any say at all in this matter. The man is a hypocrite of the first order.
The state of our union is in peril. In some ways the latest round of Trump Pardons demonstrates in more ways than 1 that the President of the United States is in the process of normalizing corruption and minimizing the body politics previously held contempt for criminality.
We will now witness the spectacle of the Republican Party leaders as well as their rank and file justifying the pardoning of corruption and minimizing the criminality of the crimes that the pardoned committed.
When that is been done the criminals that worked and perhaps still work for Trump will be pardoned and it will be passed off as normal and even as neat, right and salutary.
Barring that Trump isn’t reelected in 2020, could a future Democratic Congress retroactively impeach Trump to make sure this slug doesn’t get elected years later?
All of this reeks of quid pro quo and kickbacks. A Republican Congress would be sure to impeach a black man for it (and probably a white male Democrat too [and don’t get me started on a non-Caucasian transgender President – probably impeachable in itself for them]).
Thanks for clarifying about impeach applying only to current office holders. However, if impeached as an office holder, I read that it can come with stipulations on not being allowed to hold office again in the future.
