The thing is, from what I read, these “ballot boxes” are in Trump country. (Fresno, Bakersfield) and are in a gun shop (!) and other small businesses that I doubt are frequented by non-Trumpers. (You know, the kind of places that just scream "white people only.)
Not my original theory - already suggested on tpm - that these “ballot boxes” will be “found” in the trash somewhere and trotted out as “proof” of election fraud.
In our California ballot envelope was a yellow piece of paper with our county’s drop off ballot locations. My wife and I dropped ours off at our City Hall. They are using a night envelope drop off to the interior of the building they have had forever.

Nope. It’s a huge advantage. If the GOP succeeds in making a mess of California’s election, he can have his Supreme Court void the election.
Although california’s EVs are not in play, there are some closely contested southern california congressional seats, such as Katie Hill’s, Hunka Dunter’s (currently vacant due to his conviction), Rouda’s (he pushed out Rohrabacher), and the one currently occupied by the guy who has no cows in california.
Plus, these poorly secured private boxes could let the GOP stage a ballot theft and claim it invalidates an election.

It’s really infuriating that Republicans are doing this, because they are basically breaking the law to try to show how Democrats are doing “bad things” with ballots. When, in reality, Democrats are actually following the laws everywhere, while trying to expand the ability of everyone to vote and have their vote count. We really need Democrats to win, and then pass a huge bill with voting rights requirements that expand the ability of people to vote and curtail the ability of Republicans to interfere with that right. It’s time to shut all the ways Republicans block voters down.

Where we can see, for example, that my little burg of Scotts Valley CA (pop. 11,580) has three times as many drop-off locations as Harris County TX (pop. about 4.7 million).

Right but if their claims of fraud stem from their own illegal drop boxes, it kind of takes the air out of their tires.
