Trump Tweets Cherry On Top Of Dysfunctional Taliban Negotiations

President Donald Trump unloaded a series of tweets about the implosion of tentative talks with the Taliban and the Afghanistan government, surprising even the precious few who had been included in the negotiations.

I’m surprised he didn’t offer to hold the meetings at one of his properties.
Maybe even in NYC…

…and now they’ve extracted a high level spy from Russia because they can’t trust the ‘erratic tweets of the President’ to not endanger the person? WTF? And Pompeo out all day yesterday INSISTING DAMMIT that these talks have been ‘in the works’ for months only to have it reported this morning that it was about a week ago that ‘someone’ said ‘We should invite the Taliban to the US and broker peace!’ Christ.

Fat Ass is almost as good at foreign policy as he is at having a successful marriage. Almost.

Maybe he should see if he can make the Taliban sign a pre-nup agreement.

Did you see the stories yesterday that Melania was only allowed a visa to stay if she earned a college degree and, guess what? She didn’t. Yawn.

The negotiations with the Taliban have been going on for nearly a year. The photo op ain’t gonna happen, sir - take the deal and bring American troops home

Heh. Quite possibly, the “9/11” date was actually chosen by Trump to emphasize that there are no hard feelings from that, ya know, airplane bombing thing. After all, it made HIS building the tallest in New York City!!

Which is all the “tell” you need to know that this is totally fake, didn’t exist before he tweeted about it, and the cover story that ‘nobody knew because he only told close advisers’ is total b.s.

Like you could arrange for the travel of a bunch of fucking terrorists who most assuredly are on no-fly lists without engaging a whole bunch of the intelligence community…

FFS, he wants to hold the G7 at Doral. OF COURSE he’d hold this at one of his properties, if it had ever been an actual plan.

He will tell us of a very warm and loving letter he received from the Taliban leaders.
Peace is near.

C’mon. Give the old guy a break. He means well and has the best intention to back up his best words and good brain. What’s a little memory loss among world leaders who could get us all blown sky high?

Words are beginning to fail me. I am finding myself faced with fewer and fewer descriptive terms for this president that don’t also grievously wound whole classes of feral and farm animals, species of insects and assorted molds.

Bring the whosits where now? The only thing he cares about is getting credit for a peace agreement, however dubious, and crowing that for all those years nobody else could do what he did. I still want to see a definitive story of this but it appears Khalilzad had an agreement ready to implement but the Taliban insisted it be announced before they came here, and Trump insisted they come first, and then blew it up when they refused.

ETA well, the linked NYT story makes this clear. Trump wanted to be perceived as having put the finishing touches on a deal that was already done.

“Initially planned for September 8, just days before 9/11, the meeting would have given legitimacy to the Taliban, a group which has never renounced the massively fatal attack.”

So, are you saying the Taliban launched the attack? AQ is accused of launching the attack. The Taliban gave them safe haven. We supposedly invaded when they refused to hand over OBL, I thought. How can a group renounce an attack they never committed. Maybe I don’t remember history properly, but this sentence seems pretty flawed.

NO reason exists to suspect even such a meeting was planned. In another article, someone who lives near Camp David wrote that whenever a meeting is planned, lots of helicopter and other law enforcement activity is always seen. He saw none of that. He figured that no meeting was planned, just another lie by Trump to puff himself up with heavy duty strategy. I believe no meeting was ever scheduled. Can you imagine any Taliban in their right mind coming into the USA. They are far more intelligent than anyone in the USA government and know they’d likely be kidnapped and shipped to Guantanamo. And so do we know that who understand Taliban, and Trump.

The internet’s tinfoil hats are on a little too tight, methinks.

“Trump is being inconsistent, therefore definitely #fakediplomacy!!!” or maybe he’s just an inconsistent idiot.

and like the Taliban leaders are going to risk putting their persons in the custody of the United States. If this were real it would have been conducted at a neutral location not too far from afghanistan.

Too bad that Trump tower in Baku, Azerbaijan finananced by the Iran Revolutionary Guard never got built.
