Trump Tries To Preempt NY Tax Handover | Talking Points Memo

In the President’s latest attempt to throw everything against the wall and see what sticks in his war against Congressional oversight of any form, President Trump is seeking an emergency, immediate court order from a D.C. federal judge to prevent Congress from obtaining his tax information, according to a Wednesday court filing.

Trump Moves To Preempt NY State Tax Return Request

. . . By Voluntarily Submitting State and Federal Tax Returns

I think Bizarro Trump is the same as the Trump we see, because … well, bizarro is what he is.

Because Trump is the most transparent President ever. I guess that really means that we can see through his every move!

Let’s be honest: if Trump were tried in open court, found guilty, and sentenced to 50 years in prison, he would sue to stop the bailiff from escorting him from the courtroom. He’d sue to prevent the judge from filing the paperwork with the clerk of the court. He would sue to prevent the clerk of the court from reporting to work. He would sue to prevent the court from reading its own records. He would sue to prevent the judge from putting on the robe. He would sue to prevent the judge from impaneling a jury. He would sue to prevent the appointment of lawyers for the prosecution.

Trump is a “cold, dead hands” guy: he will never surrender anything. If you want something from him, you must take it by force. And by “force,” I mean federal marshals will have to physically restrain him like he’s having a grand mal seizure.

And the truth is that Trump deserves to have his stuff taken from him. He deserves the equivalent of a mugging by the legal system.

Putting aside the NYS law, what about the legal future of the original suit since the law is so clear in that Congress shall get the tax returns with no stipulations? Assuming this issue gets all the way to the Supreme Court, which it will, what will the split be. Can we really expect a 9-0 decision against with this group who will literally make up something if possible not to allow the disclosure? Of course the DC circuit may rule against Trump and they refuse to take it up. But they only need 4 to agree to do so.

The more he tries to hide…the longer this plays out and just in time for 2020 election cycle. Thanks for giving every Dem candidate to openly bring this topic up again and again and erode the base.

Trump’s too ham handed and ignorant to look at timelines other than 5 days out. Any other skilled pol would release redacted information on Friday night before a holiday and take away talking points of the other side.

By being himself, he’s hanging himself. I’m enjoying the view.

AGAIN…it’s been over two years since Donnie INSISTED DAMMIT YOU DOUBTERS that he would release his taxes after the ‘audit’. No way. He sues time after time to stop anyone anywhere of seeing his taxes, finances or anything relating to the criminal Trump Inc. WHY does sentient human being think he isn’t a CROOK???

Yes, and they’ll conveniently have the opportunity to harp on it again - and remind everyone that he “promised” along with his wall, fabulous health care, blah blah blah

Trump’s one claim to fame was that he was “a successful businessman.” But he not only won’t verify it, he fights tooth and nail any attempt to reveal any evidence about that claim.

We entered Bizzarro land when a career criminal took the reins, and has since thoroughly corrupted our entire legal and enforcement governmental organs.

Before he Cheated His Way Into Office (Patent Pending), he was already somebody who abused the legal system as much or more than any other single individual in the U.S… He did it for the worst reasons, and was only allowed to do this because he was wealthier than those he terrorized. His grasp on the gargantuan organizations he now oversees/perverts is the only thing he has truly GROWN into during his entire presidency. He took to it like a duck to water.

ETA: We ridiculed Chump that he was out of his league lying to Congress or Mueller or escaping felony raps. Not like his old days of trying to intimidate tenants, or stiffed contractors or local NY Realty commissioners. He proved us wrong. End Edit

There is nothing about the Chump presidency that gnaws at me harder, than the fact that someone so horribly criminal is in charge or our criminal enforcement. That somebody who is incapable of telling the truth becomes an arbiter of who is decent, or good, or truthful in our society. That he would ever dare pass judgement or insinuate himself in other’s marriages or affairs (like Sztrok, Page, Clintons, Conways, and many others), that such a cowardly traitor would be dry-humping the flag on national stages - more than once.

How bizarre. Absolutely upside down. The highest callings of the office expect simple virtues. Decency. Tolerance. Fairness. Duty. Sober judgement to do the best thing for the most Americans. If you excel at a few of these, you have a chance to really make a mark. And instead we have someone who is not only LACKING in any category you care to name…he is probably the worst human in public life that we have seen on this continent. He is off the charts going the wrong direction on each and every count.

I am not sure but I suspect that a federal court would not even have jurisdiction over what a State does with an individuals tax return. That is unlike a federal tax return that is between the U.S. Government and a tax filer, a State tax return is between a State and an individual filer so I am skeptical a Federal court even has jurisdiction.

The problem is with our current Republican Supreme Court States Rights may only apply if you want to discriminate against women and people of color.

I really think that this lawsuit is DOA and that tRump’s lawyers should know it. Congressional Dems have not requested tRump’s tax returns from NY state, so, for now at least, this is purely a state law issue and it has no business in Federal Court. If and when Congressional Dems requested tRump’s returns from NY state, I would say that a federal question could arise. Even if the court disagrees with that interpretation (reasonable people can differ), the court should dismiss the case because there is no live case or controversy (i.e., Congressional Dems have not requested tRump’s tax returns from NY state) and/or the case is not yet ripe for review. This seems purely like a request for an advisory opinion from the court, which, as I recall, the federal courts do not do.

While I am a lawyer, I practice patent law, which means I don’t get out in the real world very often. Do any of you in the commentariat who actually practice in the federal courts care to explain why I may be wrong? (Notwithstanding the fact that tRump has packed the federal courts with Federalist Society bootlicks and anything is possible.)

Whoa…being on that one thread all day over the live Mueller testimony I clearly missed about 9 articles today. No nevermind. Too tired. tRump does this, tRump does that, sues here, sues there…everywhere a suit filed. Do the hokey-pokey and you turn yourself around…that’s what its all about.

So what…tRump has grievances. tRump tweets bullshit. Faux news stands firmly with tRump and adds their two cents. tRump attacks Mueller than claims it was a victory to have him testify…same shit, different day. Its basically the same nauseating whiplash he puts out daily. Fuck tRump…I prefer to experience vertigo the old fashion way.

GOD DAMN IT. You work for Trump. There is no “denying” a subpoena. Every time you write he denied a court order, you are giving them cover. There is no denial. There is compliance, and failing to comply, a violation of a court order, and yes, I know the subpoena did not come from a court here. Every time you talk about a treaty or an accord between countries as a deal, you legitimize Trump.

Suing to stop them from turning over tax records is the action of a person not knowing how law works. Its a person who sees lawsuits as how “he got screwed” allegedly so norw hes gonna get the WORLD back. Mental illness brought into the political arena. No lawyer would do so unless ordered to by a president of the US.

all his previous statements and lies forgotten by the mainstream media and never examined or shown to be harmful to the electorate - nope ‘just look at what our zany president said today!’
