Say what you will about President Trump: he knows how to make an entrance. This time, he will enter the presidency with the distinction of being the first to have a felony conviction on his record. Friday’s sentencing comes a mere ten days before he is slated to take office. Judge Juan Merchan has already…
Whatever you might think about the merits or the impact of the case, I think this sentencing will effect Mr. Trump more than we currently realize. Branding is everything to him, and he will now be branded as a convicted criminal.
I agree, but it would be so much more satisfying if he were simply to slip and fall into one of his golf course’s many water traps and be eaten by an alligator. That’s all I’m suggesting.
It’s good to have an end to the trial with a sentence that can be cited when TSF lies about it.
Important question: Does the Resolute desk fit between the jail doors?
Other nuisances that will muddy the narrative:
Nations around the world that do not admit convicted felons will have to decide how much to embarrass Trump while making an awkward exception.
He will have to conduct the appeal of his conviction from the oval office. Also awkward and off message.
He will need to find a new crop of lawyers, having appointed the current batch to run the justice department. Wonder what that pool hiding under a barrel looks like. Wonder how they will be paid.
Edited to add: Lots of ink spilled about how it’s a good thing (well, it is a thing) he doesn’t need a security clearance.
Take the small pleasures where we can get them.
Piss on you trump you CONVICTED CRIMINAL
I don’t ever wanna hear of you using the word “honestly” as you are a fraud and you lie constantly.
Suffer donald…suffer
What was the breakdown of the 5-4 decision? My money is on Thomas, Alito, Kavanaugh and Gorsuch.
Bingo!
“unconditional discharge” — that means no probation, no fines, and no jail time.
Really? How is that not “nobody is above the law”?
Wouldn’t it be amazing if Merchan said fuck it and remanded Trump? The remote session seemed to preclude this, but what if it was a ruse?
Give him the option of suspending sentence if he resigns from office. This last part won’t be popular, but I also think Biden should offer to sweeten the deal with a pardon to go along with that resignation.
Vance is bad, but sane. He’ll lose in four years.
A guy can dream. Back to this dismal reality.
It will be important to remember this brief glimpse of almost real accountability from the end of the before time.
It’s nice to see the orange a-hole left to dangle by the SCOTUS. But after all his crapping on this country in every possible way, it still makes me sick that what he’s getting is “You really were a bad boy, you scamp, now go be president.”
I’ll take any bit of good news from the comeuppance department at this point. I hope it causes him at least some dyspepsia.
No jail time is fine by me but hanging would be nice.
Hard pass on that. No pardon for Trump under any conditions.
No pardon for him. No quarter. Never.
Even an alligator might reject that bitter flesh.
