The lake I grew up adjacent to and learned to skate and play hockey on in upstate New York just north of NYC would freeze regularly. Same with a larger one nearby that people would race older sports cars, MG’s Triumphs, Saab’s on when there was a deep freeze. Now both of them rarely freeze and the red flag stays up for much of the winter season.
