Trump Thinks Homelessness Is A New ‘Phenomenon’

Or better ask a Democratic congressperson who has been dealing with housing in cities for decades and has some policy chops in housing. If you want him to be informed, that is.

Are you saying cutting support for mental health facilities contributed to the homeless problem?
NO WAY!!! Saint Ronnie only made everything better.

ETA. I see lbj860 and I think alike. Brilliant man.

In 1988 I began working in downtown LA. And there was definitely a homeless problem. Nothing new. Some of the homeless were outside the court house for the 22 years I worked there,

Notice how the moron cites two blue cities in CA as having the worst filth and homelessness problems. If he’d walk a few block away from the tower or from the WH, if he’s able to walk that far, he’d find the same conditions all around him. It’s everywhere, just not in Sea By The Lake which makes it invisible.

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/05/22/opinion/california-housing-nimby.html (some tough to swallow truth in there)

Anyway, you can see there’s a concerted conservative effort that’s been in effect for a few years now to blame everything liberal instead of the real, ultimate cause, which is the plutocratic economic policies and political systems the GOP has created and is still trying to expand…the wealth gap, etc. You can find articles on homeless people actually having jobs and just not being able to make ends meet to find somewhere to live within 2 secs of Googling it. The rape and pillage of the middle and lower economic classes and wealthy self-interest (a bipartisan problem, whether you want to admit it or not) is at the heart of it.

But pay close attention, because the shit Trump is saying…particularly the effort to link all of this to immigration and sanctuary city status…indicates that the GOP thinks they’ve maybe found a way to take the federal government while they control it and invade those cities. we’re one “national emergency” declaration from watching Trump attempt a takeover of Frisco or LA.

Donald Trump’s buddy Ed Koch presided over the Reagan Homelessness Epidemic in NYC. But yes. If Donald Trump had been astute, he would have said the problem started 10 years ago. Exactly. To the date. Like Jan Brewer and all the Red State Papers Please Law proponents posited, that the 10 million undocumented materialized spontaneously the instant GWB was no longer El Presidente.

Sea at the Lake. If we are going to be precise in our translations.

My very first thought, hating on liberal-leaning cities in liberal CA. As if he’s walked the streets in either place. Proud to call SF my home, but also distressed at our problems. The city’s leaders are working on it daily, have been for years.

Thanks for those excerpts!

Over what span of time did they appear? Was it 2015-2019?

I just grabbed some of the worst, but yeah, it looks like the Watters piece was 2015…it came up a lot because it’s just so horrifyingly awful. Watters is areal piece of shit. However, I’d say based on my daily forays into the Faux News rabbit hole, I feel like there’s really been a ramping up of the coverage of it in 2018 and now 2019. When Trump says “2 years”, I think that jives with what I’ve seen on the Faux News website in terms of increased focus and very blatant anti-Dem/anti-liberal propaganda about it. They clearly feel it’s a great way of sending the message that if you elect Democrats, your city will be overrun with disease-riddled homeless, most of whom will be brown immigrants, and your way of life will die.

The most horrible part is just how many of them are actually veterans. Someone on the Dem side needs to get out there messaging that fact and mercilessly claiming that the GOP thinks suffering homeless vets make fantastic political footballs.

This is the latest “other” the GOP has decided to use to get their base frothing at the mouth. Boiler plate dictator 101~must have enemy to blame everything on. Trump wants to see his storm troopers out there attacking the homeless.

I blame Marjorie Merriweather Post for the confusion, just a filthy rich Anglo aiming for something quasi tropical

She could have tried some Carmen Miranda, Desi Arnaz, or Charo. I know Charo wasn’t really Tropical. But she left a big impression on some Tropical male pre-teens watching Merv Griffin or Michael Douglas on PR’s first UHF English only TV channel.

God that was a depressing article. Thanks for sharing?

Seriously- the sort of thing we should be discussing rather than what crazy thing KAC said on the teevee

But they need clicks, not people scanning past the article like it’s a homeless person they’re pretending doesn’t exist on the way to work.
