President Donald Trump demanded his fellow Republicans take action against the election results early Tuesday morning even after the Electoral College sealed President-elect Joe Biden’s victory.
So, is this the real story, Trump being Trump, a delusional egomaniac who refuses to accept reality when reality doesn’t favor him? Or is this the story we’re meant to pay attention to, because as crazy as it is, it’s hard to look away, while the real action takes place elsewhere? I.e. is this standard issue Trump craziness, or misdirection and a red herring?
I suspect both, and something’s going on behind the scenes that’s about to blow up. Trump is insane, of course, but I think that someone’s using him and his insanity to distract us from things we should be more focused on.
Trump and several Republican officeholders will continue to dispute the election after the inauguration. Going so far as to instigate litigation, putting suits forward as continuing loyalty tests to the ex-President. Trump is going to torment, vex and haunt the GOP for years and years.
It has to make Trump worry. If he’s no longer useful to Putin, Putin could start calling all the loans and Trump will be underwater immediately. Not a good position to be in when you’re going to need a lot of cash and be able to pay a bunch of top lawyers to keep you and your kids out of the slammer.
Trump’s delusions could go down a path where he refuses to accept the election results, and declares he is still President. By itself, that’s a non issue, as long as no one in a position of power is responding to his insanity. But, if there are people who refuse to depart or follow the lawful orders of President Biden, and instead try to follow Trump’s wishes, that can cause a lot of chaos.
