One of the knock-ons that is much worse than I knew is healthcare. From working in long-term care, where many of my peers and nurses were immigrants I already knew that the bottom of the food chain was very vulnerable, but I recently learned that almost all the many Indian physicians (close to a majority of local providers) are here on visas. Refuse to renew those visas and our small midwestern city is truly fucked.
