Trump Swiftly Dismisses Impeachment Testimony Request As A ‘PR Stunt’ | Talking Points Memo

Former President Trump’s legal team swiftly rejected the House impeachment managers’ request on Thursday for the Mar-a-Lago resident to testify at his own impeachment trial next week by dismissing the request as a “public relations stunt.”

So Trump’s lawyers don’t want him to testify? But can Donald resist free airtime? Free publicity? Freedom to say whatever he wants?

Stay tuned.

Exactly! You know he’s gotta be ripping out his ratty ass weave just dying to show up for the cameras. They probably had to hit him with an elephant tranquilizer to keep him from calling into Fox News to accept the offer. Although Trump seems to understand that he can’t actually lie under oath and that doing so could get him into more trouble, his NPD compels him to seek the attention. Stay tuned indeed.

He won’t testify but he WILL spend lots of time saying it’s a stunt, hoax, etc. He will discuss that at length, I’m sure.

He hasn’t said shit. Bad headline. Bad!

I think this is prelude to a subpoena which will then turn into a negotiated censure and a better deal on the relief bill. The last thing Republican’s want is the former President under oath.

As his lawyers know, he couldn’t open his mouth without perjuring himself. That’s why they responded before he could insist on doing that.

Donnie claims it’s a PR stunt?? Wow, that is f_ckin’ rich! To quote Lucy von Pelt, “What an asshole!” Hand Donnie a Bible to hold up!

Put yourself in their place. Then, when you’ve stopped screaming from sheer exhaustion, you’ll probably be able to answer that question.

Watch this. He’s going to hold an alternate presser at that same time he was requested to testify. This way he won’t run into the guard rails of truth and decorum, but instead will rant and bloviate. This, sadly will feed his base the palaver they want to hear.

Subpoena T**** ASAP.

Block him from claiming he didn’t have a chance to defend himself.

Actually, Trump will testify regardless of what his attorneys say. No doubt the House managers will present numerous video clips of trumps incriminating actions and statements. . . . in great, stop-action detail.

I wouldn’t bother subpoenaing him. Everyone knows he will lie, deflect or just crap on the floor if he’s compelled to testify. And realistically there’s no prosecutorial reason for him to testify. We have his words already, and the actions of his cronies and followers. And some of his own actions.

The only reason he might want to testify is to defend himself against the article of impeachment, and he can’t effectively do that while under oath. So it’s like any other guilty defendant: no one wants to put him on the stand. But the prosecution has to forestall his claim that his side was silences because he wasn’t allowed to speak.

Donnie knows he is incapable of telling the truth and, as always, is too cowardly to face the prospect of actual consequences for his lies.

He would proudly declare it a perfect insurrection.

He should just be negotiating for how many flags can he bring when he comes in, and how many Proud Boys can come with him

No need. I was trying to make the point that Trump barely cares with what his lawyers say. He’s fired a number of teams of them already. And if the latest crop try to get between Trump and live-streamed nationwide video coverage, they’ll be either trampled or fired, probably both.
