Actually Steve Doocy decided to resume talks with the Taliban, Trump was just the messenger. The real fireworks start when Brian Kilmeade feels the time is right to nuke N. Korea.
Yes, this wonāt even be in the news on Monday. Or it will be āWeāll announce something very, very soon.ā And the Taliban should be destroyed, not negotiated with. What would be acceptable to Trump⦠that the kids could go to school one day a week?
āThe Taliban wants to make a deal, and weāre meeting with them,ā Trump said, according to the New York Times. āWeāre going to stay until such time as we have a deal, or we have total victory, and they want to make a deal very badly.ā
Thereās a lot of āactivityā in the highlighted quotes and itās not his exemplary grammar. However, a store burrito > than the usual Google fact check (yes, Iām that lazy), so hereās TPMās forum mascot.
Why the hell people donāt just review how Trump has treated every single person and business heās dealt with since the 70s before deciding to get in bed with him, over anything, is a puzzle.
Okay, so Trump is standing right next to the US-supported (supposedly) President of Afghanistan when he announces to the troops that āheā is talking with the Taliban. So how come āourā Afghan government isnāt included, much less informed, of this? And how should they react to being publicly thrown under the bus like this?
I remember the phrase about a claim that was ānot intended as a factual statement.ā We know he says whatever will get him through the next ten minutes. He always says negotiating partners really want to make a deal, and maybe they wonāt make a deal, weāll see what happens, but they really want to make a deal. Just meaningless gibberish.
Or those who donāt learn from the past are doomed to repeat it. But with Trump all he has in his orange noggin is a 120 characters worth of history tidbits. Does he know that the Taliban retreat over the border to Pakistan for the winter? That any reduction in armed fighting is because 'tis not the season for fighting in Afghanistan?
And has anyone from this maladministration explained how/why weāre negotiating Taliban while leaving the Afghans on the sidelines?
I have to give credit to trump for making the trip to Afghanistan. It required some real determination and resolve, especially given his natural cowardly nature. We all know it was to get support from the military for his campaign and distract from the impeachment, but again, given his pusillanimity it was quite a notable effort. The supposed deal-making, of course, is surely hooey and should be fact-checked.
