the man who shot up Lewsiton Maine, was a veteran who had treatment for mental issues.; yet, he was deeply into gun culture…25 deaths and counting, many wounded, and the beat goes on…i know everyone in Maine owns a gun…they do alot of hunting there[i lived just across the border]

He’s proven many times over that he is a physical coward (can’t even bear to get his hair wet! much less hurt himself). But the real reason he’ll never commit suicide is that he’s a sociopath. To a sociopath, the entire world and everything around him belongs to him, and exists only to serve him. If he’s injured, physically or mentally, it’s everyone else who should suffer, not himself. He gets pleasure from others’ suffering.

Only about 20% of the guns estimated in circulation at the time. And the total number of guns today in Australia exceeds pre-ban figures.
Yes, guns are a problem, particularly in the wrong hands, but it’s not at all the whole of the story of why mass shootings in America are so normalized, while most countries have it as a rarity despite large amounts of guns in circulation.

The numbers: U.S. economic growth galloped at a 4.9% annual pace in the third quarter — fueled by a big burst of consumer spending — and defied expectations of a slowdown.
The sharp increase in GDP was more than double the rate of growth in the first six months of the year. It was also the largest gain since 2014 excluding the pandemic years of 2020-2021.
Wall Street analysts had forecast a 4.7% increase in gross domestic product, the official scorecard for the economy.
Consumer spending, the main engine of U.S. growth, rose at a 4% clip from July to September, the government said Thursday.
GDP also got a lift from higher government spending and a rebound in the production of inventories or unsold goods.
Before the quarter started, the economy was widely expected to slow in response to rising interest rates. Higher borrowing costs typically depress the economy.

Hit and run? It now appears that the regular crew of the New New Polar Bear was switched out with a Russian crew on October 3, just before the anchor-dragging that busted undersea telecom cables and a natural gas pipeline between Finland and Estonia. The ship is now in the Arctic Sea north of Murmansk.
