I have no idea. I thought they had some requirements but I’m not up on them. Sorry. I can’t even keep up with ours here in Texas since they change so much.
… raises hand …
Yes, unless he gets re-elected and eliminates it permanently.
Or at least that’s the current offer.
Since I haven’t (yet) seen or heard any mention of it, I’ll point out the near-obvious point that this tax cut–in addition to helping destroy Social Security–doesn’t do a damn thing for anyone who doesn’t have a job on which to pay payroll taxes.
Most likely, workers will never see it. This is deducted from a paycheck by the employer and then submitted to the SS trust fund. If you are an employer, you keep the money until such time as it has to be paid back to the Gov. If you’re smart, you put it in an interest earning account, pay back the government when it’s time and pocket the interest.
This is one-party rule.
This should be done by the Legislative Branch. But the Senate defers to the Executive to negotiate for them. They refuse to negotiate, and then claim that they have to act because it is an emergency, so the President acts as a dictator by Executive fiat. The Democratic House, and indeed all elected representatives of the people, are cut out entirely.
I find it interesting here in my part of St.Louis County that everywhere I go people are wearing their masks, even young kids. But if you go farther west in St. Louis County apparently not so much.
This past Tuesday was primary voting day. Some guy farther west than me had a snit and left his polling place because they required him to wear a mask, he just walked away and didn’t vote.
I can’t wait to see what President Biden is going to do if it is now legal for presidents to spend without constraint and modify tax rates at will Who needs Congress? Biden can just toss a trillion towards the Green New Deal and raise taxes on the 1% without them via executive order. Just declare an emergency.
Well there’s also the point that Mnuchin and Meadows negotiating with Pelosi and Schumer weren’t elected. That pisses me off.
Exactly! The Senate basically pours gasoline on itself and lights a match – talk about abrogating their duty.
Totally sounds like a Trump voter, doesn’t it?
It’s what a shit load of our fellow citizens crave, though. “Strongman” rule — as long as those people are groaning under the weight of a repressive regime.
The EO on payroll tax is only a holiday. Correct me if I’m wrong, but wouldn’t a 26 week tax delay result in people owing about two week’s pay in December?
Imagine Christmas with no income for half the month…
And he’s promising the states will pick up part of that cost - in spite of their revenue shortfalls…
My prediction is that by next week after the Trump whisperers in the media, most of whom are treating this like a done deal, sober up, this whole thing will fall apart with numerous law suits, cries of poverty from many states who can’t put up the 25% (remember how they reacted to 10% for the ACA) and a general lack of ability of the Trump regime to manage the details. Count on it.
BTW. If I were Nancy, I’d shut down any further negotiations and leave the Pubbies hanging, at least for now. They’ve found their solution. “We’ll see what happens.”
Trump’s proposal: Defund the Police!
He gets to fling Twitter shit to try to score points when Dems sue him.
What? I must have missed that. I thought this was a federal unemployment benefit on top of state UE benefits (which have largely expired). States have to pay?
Late edit: CNN says 25% of the $400 states are expected to cover.
So it is a $300 UE federal plan. What an asshole.
If we get sued, it’s somebody who doesn’t want people to get money,” Trump said.
And when I sue it’s so people will not learn that I am a psychological lunatic with the sole intent of becoming the worlds best grifter at taxpayers expense.
My understanding is that he’s funding it with stolen FEMA money.
