Yup, I remember Nixon’s resignation too. I was in my Senior year of college and working part time at a hospital. My boss wheeled a TV from a patient’s room into the office and we all watched. It was so quiet. But remember, Agnew resigned as well under a cloud of corruption. He got off with no time served but I don’t believe he was pardoned. Imagine if Agnew ( a racist monster) had been sworn in as POTUS.
I’m kinda liking the idea of his pushing the book cart around, in the clink.
And we hope that Bragg’s Grand Jury will set a precedent that will show the DOJ and the Georgia GJ that you can indict a former president , and the sun does not fall out of the sky.
So they should just get the hell on with it.
The tornado sirens are going off all over the area around me, today… so, I’m not certain you’re right.
Uh Oh. Stay safe.
I was in high school during the Watergate thing, and my impression regarding Agnew’s resignation at the time was that he was forced out in anticipation of Nixon resigning or being tossed out through impeachment. I don’t think I had any evidence (and I don’t know that there ever was any evidence), just a gut feeling.
“For more than two centuries.” It’s true that Andy Jackson supposedly knifed a guy to death in a bar fight, before he was prez. Peter Baker doesn’t mention it. Apparently, “more than two centuries ago” Richard Nixon was president, for Peter Baker. He also mentions Clinton. Did Clinton commit crimes after he left office, for which he was “shielded from prosecution”? If he did, Peter Baker isn’t telling.
No NYT editor read a draft of this and said, "Er, Peter, how about this for a frame: “For more than two centuries, American ex-presidents didn’t commit crimes.”
As Atrios says, “That fucking newspaper.”
You are correct. I just listened to Rachel Maddow’s podcast Bagman, which is all about Agnew and his forced resignation. DOJ was worried about Nixon being impeached followed by a potential Agnew impeachment. It was a perilous time in our history. Agnew agreed to plead no contest with the stipulation that he would resign. He was literally taking bags of cash for government contracts and did it on the local, state, and federal levels. Agnew was seriously corrupt.
No President or former President of the US has committed as many crimes and wantonly broken as many laws as this Fat Orange Criminal has. He committed a Constitutionally prohibited offense (is the Emoluments clause any less Constitutional than the second Amendment?)by taking the Oath of Office, and he was an outlaw from that minute until he was turned out of office in January 20 th.
He is afraid his $$ from the Saudis might be in trouble. Cry, little Kushner, cry.

OT: Everyone has seen the judge has partially granted Dominion’s Motion for Summary Judgement?

Yep…scared scared scared some of them are…
From your mouth to God’s ear!
OT but am I missing something? Where are the hoards taking to the streets to demand justice for their orange savior?
Gotta wonder if Graham got a call from Trump saying go to bat for me or I release the file Cohen accumulated on you.
I found them for you.
It isn’t against the law. What was against the law was using company money to pay Cohen to pay them off. That’s either personal compensation to TFG which is required to be be reported to the IRS, or an in-kind unreported campaign contribution.
There are decades-later biographies saying that’s exactly what happened. If nixon hadn’t been so crooked, they probably would have left agnew in place.
