Former President Donald Trump seems to be changing his tone towards the grand jury investigating the $130,000 hush money payment made to Stormy Daniels during Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign to keep her quiet about an affair they had years before.
THAT THE GRAND JURY IS SAYING, HOLD ON, WE ARE NOT A RUBBER STAMP,
Hey, Trumpie, the people on the grand jury have taken or will take a vote to decide whether you’re innocent or guilty, and then it’s out of their hands.
But by all means, try to predict the outcome of that vote. You already know what you did. Sweet dreams!
Joe Scarborough: who in my opinion is the No. 1 Trump analyst, has described him as a “politcal day trader”. I suspect Mr. Trump is also a ‘life day trader’. Every day that nothing bad happens is gold from his point of view.
No one should be surprised if this entire Bragg investigation and grand jury process fizzles into a puddle of meh. A not insignificant number of legal scholars and experienced court watchers are weighing in to that effect.
I’ve been wondering whether this isn’t an attempt by Bragg to build himself political cover after punting on actually indicting TFG for multiple frauds.
A judge has already lent credence to Trump’s assertion Willis had no business investigating him and empaneling a grand jury to consider charges. As we see with Kari Lake, the courts are more than willing to throw Trump a lifeline just when it looks bad. No doubt should Bragg actually proceed with indictments some court will gladly throw a wrench under the bonnet and help complicate, and possibly scuttle, the whole endeavor.
That is why Willis should had move quickly, it’s been two years and she has not even seated a Grand Jury to indict Trump, and she has recordings of Trump pressuring election officials. She has taken so long that she has given time for the legislature to draft a law that allows it to fire her.
The most clear attempt by a sitting president to steal an election, is going to go unpunished. Trump wont see the inside of a Georgia courthouse, much less a prison.
Trump has a lifetime track record of not being personally subject to U.S. criminal laws. Why the hell everyone thinks that’s going to change is a puzzle.
I’ve always said that Trump greatest talent is that of inducing corruption. He easily figures out what a person wants and gets him/her to do the most crooked things on his behalf. And that includes judges and prosecutors.
“I HAVE GAINED SUCH RESPECT FOR THIS GRAND JURY, & PERHAPS EVEN THE GRAND JURY SYSTEM AS A WHOLE,” Trump wrote in his Truth Social post. “THE EVIDENCE IS SO OVERWHELMING IN MY FAVOR, & SO RIDICULOUSLY BAD FOR THE HIGHLY PARTISAN & HATEFUL DISTRICT ATTORNEY, THAT THE GRAND JURY IS SAYING, HOLD ON, WE ARE NOT A RUBBER STAMP, WHICH MOST GRAND JURIES ARE BRANDED AS BEING, WE ARE NOT GOING TO VOTE AGAINST A PREPONDERANCE OF EVIDENCE OR AGAINST LARGE NUMBERS OF LEGAL SCHOLARS ALL SAYING THERE IS NO CASE HERE. DROP THIS SICK WITCH HUNT, NOW!”
Yes, Trumpian SOP: frame a narrative before the facts are known particularly when the other side is not free to or tardy in contradicting him.
Trump is a master of exploiting what I refer to as information asymmetry — the space in which events are anticipated but can’t yet be officially confirmed, such as what we’re experiencing in the current moment.
And that’s when he strikes. When Trump knows there is an information vacuum, he gets his story out first, whether it’s true or not, giving him “first mover advantage.” – Asha Rangappa
