Trump Says ‘Not Much’ He Would Do Differently In Hypothetical COVID Do-Over | Talking Points Memo

President Donald Trump on Tuesday said there’s “not much” he would do differently if he had a shot at a do-over on the coronavirus pandemic that has killed roughly 221,000 people in the United States.

“It came out of China. China should’ve stopped it.”

And you came out of the U.S. We should’ve stopped you (and we will).

Trump Says ‘Not Much’ He Would Do Differently

A little suicide too much to ask for, I suppose.

Good lord. He’s got one line: it’s all China’s fault. Unbelievable.

VOTE HIM OUT!!!

A rare statement of truth from the President of the United States.

Jees, Trump, at least make the Democratic ad writers have to work a little bit. Aren’t there enough unemployed people already thanks to you?

Nice talking point for Joe - he can use it to point to the 225,000 deaths, the overwhelmed medical centers, the decimated economy, the high unemployment numbers.

But Trump wouldn’t do anything different, so this is all good by Trump?

Go for it, Joe - hit the jugular.

As though we need YET ANOTHER statement from Donnie that proves his own idiocy?? The slob cannot keep his pie hole shut or stop digging his own grave. Good stuff.

He “seems fine” because, at least in these clips, Bolling is phrasing his questions in such a way that Trump can avoid introspection (which is his default setting anyway). I strongly suspect Stahl wasn’t doing that.

Hope he does not include his self as a great leader or smart people.

Proving again what a stable genius and, like, really smart person he is.

It was a perfect response. He saved something like 2 million lives, right?

Nobody could have done it better … even with the benefit of hindsight.

In Trump’s mind he is not digging his own grave because he is #1 in the world on letting our people die.
We should honor him.

Eric Bolling. Haven’t heard that name in a while.

And he’d have saved ten times that if Biden is elected.

I think most Americans don’t realize just how badly the US has responded. It’s literally the worst reasonable sized country on a per capita basis in nearly every measure despite easily being the country with the best preparations leading to this. The US response to the pandemic was literally the worst in the world.

And then there is the stuff the Trump administration did in the days leading up to the pandemic. They got rid of the pandemic preparation plan created during the Bush administration which was then updated and improved by the Obama administration. They also got rid of the Bush program which was continued by Obama to embed American scientists in Chinese labs, including the very Wuhan one that first detected SARS-COV-2. If Trump hadn’t ended that program American scientists would certainly have raised there concerns in early December, the Chinese would not have been able to hide it, and the entire world would have been better prepared possibly saving over a million lives around the world and massive economic damage.

Trump has been an enabler, spreader, and magnifier of COVID in every way imaginable and some ways one wouldn’t have even imagined is real other than the fact that we have evidence on TV and Twitter (politicizing wearing masks for example).

Also, I just imagine what Trump’s response to Pearl Harbor have been. As the Japanese were taking over the pacific and gulf coasts, while the Germans were bearing down on the Atlantic coasts, I suspect his response would have been that this started in Japan and they should have stopped it?

He keeps going back to his porous China ban in January or February. It’s almost November.

I think more of them have been exposed to the measure of the response. They just don’t believe the numbers, because all the agencies doing the recording have been discredited by the administration for making the President look bad.

A competent populist would say something like he should have more strongly questioned the experts about whether masks would be useful, whether airborne transmission might be possible even if they hadn’t confirmed it yet, etc. etc. etc. Y’know, because he has such good (and powerful!) instincts for this stuff. It would even be a politically effective answer, even if it shouldn’t be. But he didn’t, because he’s such a terrible populist.
