Trump’s Transition Honcho Warns Transitions Shouldn’t Rely On ‘Goodwill’ Of Losing POTUS | Talking Points Memo

The formulation “without goodwill” is inaccurate and obfuscatory. More like “with malice.”

The man has a point even if it was worse than he described.

““Without the President’s direct intervention or instructions, it made it impossible for you to push some agencies,” Marchick said.”

The main issue here seems to be how to deal with people who continually act with bad faith, such as causing a problem and then suggesting questionable fixes to that problem.

While I don’t disagree that the state of the country requires legislating some teeth for acts that assumed an interest in common, like the presidential transition, it’s rich that the suggestion would come from anyone affiliated with Donnie.
Maybe it’s just me, but I’d think that anyone associated with the former administration would be devoting their lives to, oh, working with the Sisters of Mercy to ameliorate the lot of the less fortunate in Papua New Guinea in hopes of earning some forbearance from our society and legal system.

Transitions Shouldn’t Rely On ‘Goodwill’ Of Losing POTUS

Um, no…Thats EXACTLY what they should be able to rely on. Thats the whole friggin’ point of a ‘peaceful transition of power’!!! :face_with_symbols_over_mouth::face_with_symbols_over_mouth::face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

The crux of the issue is how to disincentivize bad faith, not just ignore it. The administration needs to have a schedule of measures culminating in loss of the filibuster triggered by GOP sabotaging government — the process should be explicit and public. Biden of all people should know the difference between policy disagreements and subverting the process.

You can implement more laws and rules for people like Trump to do the things presidents are supposed to do. But, someone like him is just gonna break the rule or the law anyway. Then what are you going to do? Impeach him?

And how many lives will Trump’s intransigence and recalcitrant dickishness cost owing to the lost time and wasted resources?

Question for Emily Murphy. Was your less than 15 minutes of fame (infamy) worth it? Hope you reap what you sowed.

Many codifications like this will be needed until we learn, as a society, not to elect crazy and ignorant antagonistic freaks to high office or indeed, any office at all. Relying on good will doesn’t seem like a workable short-term approach.

My thoughts exactly. Pretty darned clear in law, for example, that certain members of the House can ask for anyone’s tax returns…

Couldn’t remember her name. But if she can’t be fired I hope she enjoys her new low-level jobs in various dreary locations among which she is frequently transferred.

That lesson won’t be learned. Assuredly in 2024 or 2028 or 2032 someone of the ilk of Tom Cotton, Josh Hawley, Ted Cruz or DJT,Jr will be elected President. It’s a lock. We’re the drug addict always telling friends about our current bout of sobriety, just the latest in a string of 3 month dry spells surrounded by years and years of mainlining the crazy.
