Trump’s Ex-Lawyer Would Totally Be His Lawyer Again If He Didn’t Have To Open Boxes

The only town in Gillespie County of any significance is Fredericksburg, a major tourist destination for that part of the state. There are also a number of pick-your-own orchards in the area. I wonder how the merchants, orchard owners, and motel owners will react to the loss of revenue because of the threats. It is a somewhat quaint town but apparently with some local Nazis who don’t care if they wreck its businesses.

Gotta say, I read the book and thought he was waaaaayyy smarter than he actually appears to be now. He seemed to have potential, turns out he’s just another moron Trump hack. Did not see that coming.

Looks like he’s secured the talents of the Rap-lawyer Drew Findling. Drew has faced Fani Wallis before, which is actually good for us. She knows all his tricks and treats.

Hmm, Weisselberg skimmed millions, but his boss didn’t know? Highly implausible. I can’t wait for the trial.

Findling was leery himself, having heard all the horror stories, but as a guy familiar with the world of entertainment he was won over by Trump’s dancing. A guy who’s that nimble and light on his feet, he reasoned, would surely be an excellent client and this will go better for me than it did for other people, since I’m special. I don’t know. Something like that.

But remember folks that the brain dead Press Corpse at the New York Times will continue to beat the “Democrats In Disarray” drum!

He’s smart. He’s just a creep and a fake and not good at this.

  • Don’t expect a whole lot to come out of this. The DOJ’s been fighting tooth and nail to keep the affidavit sealed, and they’ll likely use their redaction pens pretty liberally here.

Sounds like an episode of Ozark. JD getting that sweet drug money from Purdue (through AEI) to make them look like they are the good guys. From the article:

Documents and emails obtained by ProPublica for a 2019 investigation found that Satel, a senior fellow at AEI, sometimes cited Purdue-funded studies and doctors in her articles on addiction for major news outlets and occasionally shared drafts of the pieces with Purdue officials in advance, including on occasions in 2004 and 2016. Over the years, according to the report, AEI received regular $50,000 donations and other financial support from Purdue totaling $800,000.

All three election officials in Texas’ Gillespie County have resigned amid violent threats against election workers that’ve been skyrocketing ever since the 2020 election.

  • This is in spite of the fact that Trump, who’s been stoking the fury and mistrust toward election workers, won the county by 59 points in the election.
  • The county’s (now-ex) election administrator, who resigned on Tuesday, told the Fredericksburg Standard-Radio Post that she was being both threatened and stalked in wake of the election due to “dangerous misinformation.”

Quite apart from the specifics of this story, we have here another instance of how cable news and social media have so altered our understanding of “the local” that many people just take as given that what talking heads are saying is happening “everywhere” must perforce also be happening in the specific place where they live.***

In Walden (and I’m going to paraphrase here), Thoreau writes that it’s easier for do-gooders to care about slavery in Barbados than it is to care about slavery in this country, the reason being that, well, they can’t really do anything about how things are done in a British colony but, by golly, they’d have to act, and inevitably against their own interests (given how the entire country, pretty much, benefited economically from slavery), if they seriously cared about slavery here. Though not an exact analogy, the “Hey! Squirrels!” dynamic is the same, it seems: “Care about this big, abstract thing!” the national media says, but they don’t go to the trouble of reminding media consumers that things just might be different in their hometown. Or, maybe, the same, but don’t bother about checking that out independently.

**While right-leaning media are the main culprits here, the NYT pulls this kind of thing, too. They frequently have big, splashy articles about The Present State of Higher Education but, with very few exceptions, the people and events covered are at the Ivies, most prominently Harvard and/or Yale. Never mind that over half the students enrolled in colleges and universities attend community colleges. And we can’t leave out the occasional feature article in which a family living in Manhattan is seriously considering moving out of the city because they just can’t figure out how to make it there on a salary of $200,000 and maintain the lifestyle they argue is “expected” of them.

(Sorry if I sound too hectoring here. The semester begins next week, and I already have my game face on.)

Thanks. It seems the connection will be financial and indirect, in other words, not a direct conviction.

The claim:

“Vance was unfamiliar with Satel’s connection to Purdue when she was selected for the residency.”

… well given that this was likely the most important & most visible action that this foundation was to take … gotta call BS on old JD … He is lying … or stupid …but likely both … you simply don’t make this kind of appointment & agree to pay out a significant amount of funds …without having done your due diligence …
He knew! He just didn’t care … because there were ways that this appointment benefited him.

Texas County Left Without Any Election Officials After Resignations

At least here in Virginia but probably in Texas too, how elections are managed is spelled out in law and code to pretty fine details. If the election managers follow the law, there isn’t a lot of flexibility or leeway.

One thing Texas has done is make it a lot easier for outside observers to watch what’s going on. I hope the Democrats are taking advantage of this. They should have observers everywhere: when the machines are being tested, all times voting is going on, all during canvassing of the vote count, right through certification.

And if they see anything that’s not allowed by law, they need to take it right to court. Stop all the shenanigans dead. I hope the Democratic Party will provide lawyers and funds to do this.

This should be done in states that have maggot attorneys general or governors as well. Watch them closely, and don’t hesitate to sue.

Sometimes I have to assure people that this insane thing I just said for a joke is not, in fact, a thing I actually believe is true. It makes me wonder how I come off to others.
