They’ll just auto-switch “Russia” to “Florida” to boost the count…
Acts small, talks big. Same shit, different day. I’m not convinced there’s really a story here.
I guess “whatever necessary” includes defying the Supreme Court. Like they used to say in the old days, “Just following orders.”
Dept of Justice…
War is peace
Freedom is slavery
Ignorance is strength…
Justice and Commerce will issue regulations on Unskewing the Census, a guide to proper apportionment.
MLRS. It’s the only way to be sure.
I suppose – but as a rule, I think it unsound to talk about stuff you don’t know.
Even in a thread like this.
A Bradley weighs less than half of an Abrams. The risk of serious damage to roads and bridges from Bradleys is correspondingly less.
So when Trump’s critics (properly) talk about the possibility that driving tanks on DC’s streets, over bridges and on the Mall will cause serious damage, it would be prudent to know when they are talking about 60-70 ton M-1 tanks, and when they are talking about 28 ton armored personnel carriers. That way, when “tanks” don’t actually cause the collapse of the Lincoln Memorial and the Arlington Memorial Bridge, the bad guys have less leverage to point and laugh. (Sorta the way it’s an unforced error in discussing firearms to dismiss the distinction between automatic weapons and semi-automatic ones.)
I realize this sorta thing is lost on most commenters here, but in its own small way, it’s inexcusably stupid, politically.
Typical.
I knew you’d start up eventually. You were here a while back, calling all the commenters stupid, and you got a few dozen scathing replies in return and flounced off in a huff, saying you’d go to greener pastures with smarter people who’d appreciate you more. But here you are back again. Hi!
P.S. It wasn’t even I who mentioned the tanks in the beginning so you’re responding to the wrong poster and everyone here, I guarantee you, knows the difference between a tank and an APC, and there have certainly been images of tanks published all along as they wend their way into the capital.
The SCOTUS does have a lean toward State sovereignty, at the moment. I could easily see this happening. With federal money. Where blue states subsidize the red. Seriously, i think this will be attempted. The GOP is fighting the long-game to win perpetual power. This fits with their tactics.
“Thanks” to Trump for expanding the circle of “need to know.”
Which they couldn’t do, and I think that was obvious to everyone from the beginning.
And again, Fox will be shrieking about it during the census to make sure people are frightened and confused. Mission accomplished.
Which is funny because “frightened and confused” describes fox viewers perfectly…
I was really diappointed and irritated with Aaron Blake’s description of the controversy in today’s WaPo:
The wisdom of asking about citizenship on the census is a moral judgment that people are free to make. (Opponents claimed it was a partisan power play to dilute the political power of Hispanics; supporters argued it’s important to get an accurate count.) But how the administration went about trying to get it done is another matter entirely. And now the whole thing has ended, unceremoniously and perhaps appropriately, with what wound up being an empty threat from President Trump to try to delay the 2020 Census.
Supporters want to get an accurate count of citizens when the Constitution says that it’s to provide an accurate count of people. As one commenter there put it:
- It’s not a “moral judgment.” The question would have reduced participation and made the Census less accurate, resulting in decreased funding and fewer US Represnetatived for Democratic districts. There’s nothing “moral” about that.
- “Opponents claimed it was a partisan power play” in the same way that “opponents claim” there’s sand on the beach and the earth is round. It’s a fact that it was a partisan power play that violates the Constitution.
Someone else claimed Wilbur Ross acted “in good faith” and the question should have been allowed.
He LIED to the court about the reason for the question! He should be charged and convicted!
Straw man. Typical.
Yep. This one is perfect for our new feature.
This might seem silly, but what’s to stop people from just saying, yes, they are U.S. citizens?
It’s illegal to give false answers on government forms. You’ll always see that disclaimer, on any form you fill out.
