Bringing in the stunt lawyer. A panic move I have seen many times.

True story: I was on a case years ago where Ted Cruz was the stunt lawyer.

ETA: Come to think of it, Cruz was supposed to be Trump’s stunt lawyer for the Supreme Court election argument that never happened because the case was so transparently stupid. Panic!

I’m curious as to the size of the retainer. Had to be at least $1M. Trump’s reputation of not paying his legal bills and not taking his lawyers advice had to have made this every expensive.

I expect Trump will be indicted by mid-summer. Fischetti is going to earn his money.

“Trump Organization” is a misnomer. It can only be more accurately described and named as “The Trump Crime Syndicate.”

It appears that Futerfas & Pomerantz have enough other income to work gratis for Trump. Cuz they ain’t seeing a fuckin’ dime from Trump Org.

Classic Trump move. React late and petulantly.

Hope he got the $$$ up-front.

ETA. What does he do when the check bounces?

Trump’s campaign contributors are paying whatever he’s getting.

Cruz volunteered. Was there ever an indication that Trump took him up on it?

I assume this was just a Cruz stunt he knew would never come to pass if for no other reason than the case would not get to the SCOTUS.

I understand the (misguided) logic on the Trump Org’s side for this move. However, what’s the logic for the stunt lawyer?

Unless he is getting paid millions up-front, he’s burning his reputation just to get stiffed on payment down the road.

“I’m delighted that I’m going to be on the defense of this,” he told WSJ.

“It looks like an annuity for life,” he continued.

I’m guessing much less. The firm’s “Notable Cases” are mostly 20 years old. Fischetti doesn’t seem to be a particularly prominent criminal defense guy by NYC standards, and he hasn’t partnered with Pomerantz since the '80s. That suggests they went through a lot of contacts before settling on a guy whose ties to the special prosecutor are four decades in the past.

I could be mistaken, but he probably could use the work. As noted above, his “Notable Cases” are mostly pretty old, and he does not seem to be particularly notable in NYC criminal defense circles.

[Ron] Fischetti and [Mark] Pomerantz were law partners in the 1980s

All true.

May also be worth noting that Ron is in his mid-eighties.

Mark is considerably younger.

“I am so pleased that Ron has been added to the team. He brings extraordinary experience, a depth of knowledge and wisdom that is invaluable and that we so appreciate.”

Shorter read: They are consumed with anxiety.

Knowledge and wisdom is out when you sign on to defend Trump.

Ah, the classic “Find hungry samurai” approach. It sounds like the Trump Org is scraping the bottom of the barrel for defense attorneys.
