After a nonprofit told TPM Wednesday that it was pulling out of a strip club’s golf tournament at President Donald Trump’s golf course in Doral, Florida this weekend, Trump’s business announced the entire event would be cancelled.
Shorter version: “We’re absolutely getting killed with educated women, they’re basically in jihad mode at this point, and once this hit the news we needed it to go away.”
Miami All Stars looks like a mostly fake organization. No current programs—the most recent info on its website is from 2016. It lists a dozen sponsors including the NBA, Walmart and Adidas using fuzzy logos obviously copied from other websites. So—what was really going on here?
I’m a bit surprised that they cancelled. So much potential for graft–and guaranteeing that “non-profits” would benefit. Did anyone else notice in the previous TPM story on this that the director of the charity said this:
He said what little planning for the event he was involved with was not documented, aside from some handwritten notes.
“We never mentioned amounts, as far as the amount of money, any of that,” he said. “We didn’t sign any agreement. There was no documentation involved.”
Imagine trying to get any money at all from a Trump agreement that was that lax. Imagine the “expenses” that would have to be covered.
…and its not listed with the state as a charitable organization eligible to provide tax deductions…
“Now that the charity has removed its affiliation, the event will no longer be taking place at our property and all amounts paid will be refunded.”
in other words, Doral has no problem hosting events that include the auctioning off of “strippers” as caddies – and providing hotel room packages that include 1/2 hour “VIP sessions” at a strip club.
