I guess he got tired of having his efforts to steal Constitutionally mandated powers from the Congress blocked by the Judiciary and decided to shift his efforts to stealing Constitutionally mandated powers of the states. His EOs, starting from the first day, have gone way past being rock-solid grounds for impeachment. The GOP legislators, far from defending their Constitutional powers and duties, have instead become willing, if not eager, co-conspirators in this massive violation of one Constitutional provision after another. Sadly, only the Congress can expel lawless members, as they did following the start of the Civil War. But these days, it’s the criminals who are in the Congressional majority, not the defenders of the Constitution and the rule of law, so nothing whatsoever will happen, other than their continuing to enable Trump’s rampage of criming.
Vote. Them. Out. It’s about all that’s left that we can do.

There is a program that is meant to share data among the states to check that there aren’t multiple registrations active across the states for a single person. Republicans backed out of that, for the usual BS reasons, so it’s highly ironic that they now want to force all the states to share information through the DoJ. State’s rights apparently end when Republicans control the government. And, this is intended to give them the power to remove non-Republican voters from the roles…they can pick and choose every Juan Martinez across the nation and declare they are all fraudulent registrations. It’s a short step to declaring random Democrats as “illegal voters” for made up reasons, or starting investigations and pulling a voter’s rights while it’s in process.
Remember, it’s who counts the votes that matter, but if the vote counters can remove voters from the rolls ahead of time it’s a lot easier to make sure elections end up the way they want.

We have been through that once, and it’s pretty clear how that would work out…you can be sure Trump and his minions are just itching to send bombers over LA and San Francisco to put down a liberal rebellion.
However, at the rate things are going it’s very possible that the Constitution itself may be declared void, at which point the states no longer have any legal basis for staying. It would still likely be a fight, but if the United States no longer exists that makes it a lot more likely that individual states can get help, and a dissolution might cause many states to band together in their own groups instead of going along with Trump. And the military might fall apart as well, or decide not to support anyone…if there’s no US anymore they just might choose to wait until the matter is settled instead of doing what Trump wants.
I don’t think it’s going to happen this way, the blue states are the economic engine of the nation, doing anything that would allow them to leave would throw all the Republican plans into even more chaos. But you never know how a dictatorship is going to go, so we’ll just have to wait and see how far they push it and how people react, and hope that this is a short spasm of idiocy instead of the end of the US as we know it.

That doesn’t mean they will go along with the split, they will still be US military soldiers under Trump’s orders. And, the states all have red and blue areas, so it’s not an easy split like the Civil War…who knows how that shakes out, maybe one group leaves, maybe there’s an internal war in each state.
It’s different if Trump declares himself king and voids the Constitution (whether openly or effectively), at that point there is no longer a US for anyone to be loyal to, and people can choose what they want to do. Trump will try to force everyone to stay together, but there will not be a legal means to do so with the Constitution in abeyance. Plus, the majority of Americans do not want a king or dictator, even without the title, so there would be a lot of separation.
As I noted I don’t think this is going to happen, Republicans can’t afford to lose the blue states and it seems unlikely that Trump and his minions can actually pull this off, especially since the people don’t want it.

The Times, Places and Manner of holding Elections for Senators and Representatives, shall be prescribed in each State by the Legislature thereof; but the Congress may at any time by Law make or alter such Regulations, except as to the Places of chusing Senators. (Emphasis added.)
Funny, no mention of the President having any power to change these rules. Instead, he resorts to extortion. Nice little country you got there, be a shame if anything happened to it…

States have already filed lawsuits over some of what is going on.
It is very important to note that executive orders from the president are not a replacement for laws or the Constitution. Many of Trump’s EOs violate that, and they should be tossed by the courts. It just takes time to process it all, unlike Trump and his minions the rest of the system actually is following the rules. I know that’s frustrating, but it’s also necessary…if everyone starts acting like Trump and other Republicans then we’ll have nothing but chaos and the whole system will fly apart.
