He knows perfectly well the threat he was making to Ukraine – that’s how he intends to get what he wants from them.
Nor is he sincere in pretending he’s not guilty. He’s counting on two things. One that the Republicans in Congress will back him up for fear of what his base will do to them in the primaries and two that his base is brainwashed enough that they will believe what he tells them to.
