So the companies manufacturing these ventilators are getting something out this, no? Tax write off some part of the stated cost?

Respiratory Therapist here…just because the word “ventilator” is associated with product does not make it a real ventilator. Remember when Elon Musk bought and sent out thousands of ventilators? They were bipaps- not a full ventilator. And not even a very sophisticated bipap.The Ford ventilators? automated ambu bag - just above a person standing there 24 hrs bagging the person…
I’ll bet this is just like the Biden investigation: Donnie doesn’t care what ultimately happens to the machines as long as the recipients announce their receipt and express gratitude.

This isn’t s sales contest donald… it’s a crisis you are supposed to lead us out of. But sadly you cannot find your car keys or your pants or your brain (even though it is connected to your head).
