A lot of things happened. Here are some of the things. This is TPM’s Morning Memo. Sign up for the email version. Last Gasps Over the next few days we will witness the final death spasms of the efforts to hold Donald Trump accountable to the rule of law. A convicted felon, who was also under other…
I think I speak for everyone when I say, who gives a fuck what the fat asshole is pissed off about today? He’s a fucking toddler who’s always pissed off a bout something. If this were a sane and courageous country, our news media would start every program with a chyron of the things Trump is pissed about that day, but never mention it. Just laugh at his fat ass.
Every time I think this country finally hit Peak Stupid something pops up that proves it can get dumber…
If this doesn’t convince you this country is headed for collapse…don’t worry something dumber will pop up in a little bit…
Here’s hoping Merrick Garland finds his spine and publishes Jack Smith’s reports- both of them. The people have a right to see what was done in their name.
Insert .gif of the world’s smallest violin here. The only problem I foresee is that some idiot judge(s) will stop the release of the Pool Papers report, in respect of the remaining defendants. However, if their names are redacted, I don’t see anyone who has a valid reason to quash the public release of this report. It’s in Merrick Garland’s hands, no one else. We shall see if that’s bad or good.
Will be surprised if the report is published.
And then there’s this.
Trump Is Big Mad About
Jack Smithleaking of Russia dossier.
It is two reports actually. Jan. 6 has no info pertaining to the co-defendants. The second has their info removed or redacted. But they’ve appealed to Canon. Yup.
“ You’re going to prison for a very long time. You’re a totally evil person that has broken the law and destroyed lives, and the people whose lives you destroyed may not have the power to do anything about it, but we certainly do, and we are. You are a truly evil individual and you’re deranged.”
Every accusation is an admission.
I presume it will be, but not until 2050.
Look, folks, none of MM today is a surprise. The Smith report - dead in the water. The Bannon threat - ho hum.
This is what the voters demanded. Threats of violence, heads in the sand about crimes committed. Yes, I understand that the bottom line is 30% of all voters elected this, but does that change the fact that we now have to deal with this for the next 2 - 4 years? Does it change it at all? Absolutely not. Those that didn’t vote? They don’t care. Those that voted for Harris? Disappointed beyond all levels, but it’s not enough to change the outcome.
This is what we have. I don’t know if the Dems are committed to standing in the breach to minimize the impact. All we can do is wait and see if the Dems fold in the interest of comity (I almost want to write comedy, because the situation is so bizarre).
I have legal questions that is predicated on a few suppositions:
- Let us suppose (expect) that Merrick Garland does not release the reports.
- Let us suppose (expect) that the new administration does, indeed, prosecute people who were involved in the various investigations and cases that involve the events investigated by Jack Smith.
Would the defendants be able to use elements of the report as parts of their defense? To what extent would the new administration be able to control the elements of the report?
I think it’s pretty much a given that Merrick Garland will punt on this and do absolutely nothing, thus sealing his legacy as the worst AG in recent history. No good reason for doing so, he’s just lousy at his job.
Hopefully gets eaten by a polar bear.
More a projection than an admission. I truly hope Bannon’s NEXT sentence, coming soon to a theatre near you, is for several years. He’s no longer anything more than a toxic threat.
I know tcf is all about dominance, but he’d be better off if the report was released. If it goes out as scheduled, the media will clutch pearls, Dems will be angry but resigned, and MAGA will shrug.
But if it’s leaked later, it’ll be the Streisand Effect. Which I’d be fine with.
Either way, it’s not like the Senate will remove him.
