Apparently there are inertial dampeners in Star Trek, which is why they didn’t equip the chairs with seatbelts. But the inertial dampeners never seemed to work worth a damn.
Lock up your dogs ‘cause Kristi Noem is back.
I hate seeing him every day too, especially the anus mouth shots like today. But TPM is a muckracking site and that’s where the muck is. The “About” page says “We are particularly focused on reporting on abuses of power and betrayals of the public trust.”
The reason we didn’t see more pics of Harris is that she wasn’t doing any of that. There are enough other sites where we can get general political news. We’re going to see four years of Trump and his minions on TPM because that’s where the corruption is.
Yeah, join the club. Most of the older white women I know are Fox watchers and I try to avoid them.
Near term: Pray for incompetence. We saw what these yahoos did and didn’t do with the various majorities they’ve had in the last 8 years. Think of the recent GOP House and let that be a flickering candle of hope.
Longer term: The idea that the world has become “too fast” for democracy to keep up with is chilling and sums up a thought that’s been trying to coalesce in my own slow little brain. The white hats need to stop relying on the rightness of our cause and figure out how to out-innovate the black hats.
Which means they will then be loaned out to businesses who lost their critical immigrant employees during the purge. IOW, the government will round them up and make them slaves, lowering labor costs for business owners.
These picks that that Trump is making are there as long as they kiss his ass and go along with his gut not what makes sense or is legal.
No. Whatever they break, they will blame on Democrats, and the media will pile on.
They will never be held accountable.
I just saw Josh’s post on Rubio and Stefanik, which dovetails with my thoughts: these people could have been part of a Romney admin, and tcf has hired them as a way of asserting his dominance.
As for Noem, is she planning to take her dog-shooting weapon and shoot migrants? She certainly doesn’t strike me as bright enough to make policy. (Any South Dakotans out there who can address her as a governor?)
We don’t really need to imagine anything - trump has told us all what he will attempt to do. There are people who refuse to panic about what we might be facing, without being blind to the parade of horribles we are facing. Some of those things will happen, some won’t, some things will be less severe than expected, some more. What we do not want to do is let our fear of the worst case cause us to veer to the conclusion that the worst case is also inevitable. None of this is totally inevitable. trump will rage and threaten and do plenty of damage, but he will not be able to do everything he wants, at least as quickly and easily as he wants. There are going to be many many battles: between state courts and trump, career civil and military, agencies fighting back even as the regime fires dissenters. (ultimately leaving nobody to carry out orders). We all need to keep our heads on straight and be prepared for whatever, without surrendering in advance, even with that feeling of despair so many of us carry. We are in a war which nobody here wanted. Wars can’t be won without some hope, any more than life can go on without hope.
Sure, I can see the new fascist regime trading human beings for economic gain.
Well, throughout the entire campaign, the Republicans referred to immigrants as “animals” …
Just wait for another Elian Gonzalez case to become fodder for the news cycle.
There’s around 1 million undocumented immigrants in Florida. Even if DeSantis complies many of those communities with citizens who have undocumented relatives will be resistant.
There was an interesting anecdote mentioned on Pod Save America the other day about Floridas new immigration policy. After Floridas law was passed a number of Republican legislators hit the Latino evangelical church’s to assuage them. “Don’t worry you’ll be fine”.
@txlawyer posted the first link that I saw.
“Anecdote” perhaps?
I’ve seen a lot of articles wondering if Americans really want authoritarianism. Just a reminder that after Kent State, a poll showed that a majority of people supported the National Guard’s actions.
Many people will sacrifice a lot for “order.” (Cue Martin Niemoller.)
Yes absolutely on demonstrating their utter incompetence. Not so sure there will be any consensus on the incompetence, though. The new fascists have wall-to-wall support for any crimes they commit from the media and the courts. I honestly don’t know how we overcome that.
I stayed in touch with a sibling by making him agree to no political discussions. He died before the election. He was highly educated and due to his work lived in many parts of the world but made negative comments about people from different racial and ethnic groups even though we are a mixed race extended family and he knew and worked with people from all over the world.
And Loving. (Best named case, ever.) But it will go because “we” have to protect our genes.
