The chances of getting Ratcliffe to 50 votes dropped precipitously after this press conference. The GOP is already getting stung by Democrats pushing reasonable election security bills they refuse to vote on, and putting this hack in charge of security will make this a major campaign issue…and not in a good way.

Unless Ratty is playing both sides against the middle. Interestingly, Browder believes Ratty has the chops for the job based on Ratty’s involvement with him in the Magnitsky Act. There’s a lot of manipulation going on here, and not all of it by Trump.

The statutory requirement is “shall have extensive national security expertise.” Even a complacent/compliant McConnell led Senate may have trouble spinning Ratcliffe’s resume to satisfy either “extensive” or “expertise” let alone both of them.
