President Trump is scheduled to hold a press conference on the coronavirus at 5 p.m ET. Today’s briefing comes as DOJ and DHS inspectors general announced investigations into the aggressive use of force on protesters in Portland and Washington, D.C. The investigations would also look into how law enforcement officers cleared out Lafayette Square in front of the White House last month, so that Trump could have an awkward church photo-op.
Glad to see these probes undertaken. They will definitely cast Trump/Barr in a bad light, especially when Trump fires the IGs. Looks like he fired the IG and made confidential a report about his scandal regarding the Turnberry golf resort. He tried to arm twist the UK gov’t to send the British Open there, but I suspect that there might be some other things which could open up an extensive review of Turnberry finances, which will reveal that the Scottish golf course is basically a place to launder money. Trump doesn’t actually care if it makes a profit. He’s getting a cut of laundered funds. He just needs enough revenue to make it not look ridiculously criminal.
That said, I do not believe the people should be having to face down these rent a cop fake paramilitaries. State police, State AGs, DAs need to get involved at minimum. Nat Guard might create a federalism issue, but use what you’ve got. Arrest any rent a cop who gasses, beats or shoots a protester. Arrest any rent a cop who wanders off fed property in uniform and armed.
He is so desperate for attention and ratings boosts, he’s jumping all over the place, hoping that people will see this as he does. NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.
