As in most things in life timing will be important.
If Trump sickens and dies before the GOP convention they have a choice of nominating Pence or someone else. And as for getting the Republican candidate’s name on the ballot well “this is an extraordinary time”.
If Trump dies after the nomination then I suppose that they are stuck with Pence.
If Trump loses the election and then dies then there is no justice in this world.
If Trump wins the election and dies then we get Pence and there is still no justice in this world.
What I heard last night on MSNBC is that Trump and I guess Pence get tested at least every other day, if not everyday. And I’m assuming that their are getting the results in less than 5-7 days after each test. Or do they have some sort of lab in the WH that only works on their tests and their staff’s tests?
Saw my neighbor for the first time yesterday in about a month. She does ECMO at a local tertiary care hospital and has been working non stop for months. Because she does ECMO she only sees the sickest of the sick. She looked bad (she had just gotten home from a double shift). Her face was red, irritated and puffy - I assume from the irritation of all the PPE. I asked her how bad things were and she said it was pure hell from the second she got there until she leaves. She said she is going part-time in September because she can no longer take it.
I mentioned some of the questionable things Trump has said and she seemed surprised (and somewhat dubious) at each one. It was obvious she has not had time to do anything besides eat, sleep and work. I thanked her for what she is doing. I dropped the politics - people in a war zone don’t really give a shit about politics while the bombs are dropping.
She and her husband are Republicans. They have always been more than kind to my family. I caught her husband last week and he expressed some real skepticism about what Trump and Ducey are doing. He is a science guy and was completely dumbfounded at people refusing to wear masks, etc.
It is slow and it is painful here in AZ, but I do know a few people who have converted. Most of the locals have simply drilled deeper into fantasy, but there are people who are starting to realize we have a crazy person at the helm. But God help the healthcare workers, Democrat, Republican or whatever.
Essential is the new expendable.

He won’t even last that long. Yesterday’s show was the best he could do, and that only because his handlers read him the riot act and told him to read the damn script and say nothing else. Of course he failed at that, though he did manage to deliver the COVID bits before getting into the obstruction of justice thing. But that was the absolute best he could do. It won’t last through the next rally briefing.
If trump or pence were to have a heart attack, a stroke, or be attacked and have their eyes gouged out, there are medical personnel and facilities in the White House where they would get treatment. If Malaria were preggers and went into labor, there’s facilities for that in the WH. There’s a small hospital within the building. Testing with results a few days later is small potatoes. I get mine from a private health provider in 15 minutues.
