A lot of things happened. Here are some of the things. This is TPM’s Morning Memo. Sign up for the email version. What A Weekend We come into the new week with more weekend news to process than we’ve had since February or March, so I’m going to jump right into it. I tried to condense it…
Cadet bone spurs goes to war.
Wake up sleepyheads, it’s a fine sunny morning and we’re all gonna go to dystopia!
Unless and until the Insurrection Act is invoked, I would hope the Marines politely decline. Even afterwards, is it a legitimate order?
Someone referred to him as Fidel -maybe you- on the weekend thread. A cigar would complete the picture…And why is he dressed like that, has anyone asked him?
I think that was @dicktater and it must’ve planted the cigar idea in my head.
If you can’t use the military on your own people you’re not a real dictator. Even Trump knows this.
They can order them in to do plenty of things, just not policing activities themselves, except in very limited circumstances like protection of federal lands/facilities (thus the designation of the strip of land along the border, opened up use of active duty there).
The Trump administration has forced out… a third [FBI agent] for his friendship with former FBI agent
Trump is filled with hate.
The CIA should get right on it. It’ll be a blast!
MAGAt KKKult stopped giving a fuck about engaging in foreign wars as much as they used to, because the real top-priority war of violent subjugation and exploitation they want to wage is on the rest of us in our own country.
Yeah, but can he speechify for three hours?
That flatfoot would probably rather have a donut or 12.
Some Florida Republicans are not happy with Trump. Dems could try to work with them on this.
Pete will proudly lead his forces into battle. Defending against the citizens he is beholden to.
Off topic.
Words matter now more than ever.
Trump is describing the protesters here in Los Angeles as “insurrectionists,” in an obvious run-up to invoking the Insurrection Act.
More words: why describe people as “White nationalists” when they are “white supremacists”?
Why call people “Christian nationalists” instead of “Christian supremacists”?
And don’t let your opponent to the framing:
Trump’s “Big beautiful bill” should not be parroted as such by commentators, rather “most expensive bill in U.S. history.”
And on and on…
Socrates wrote that “the misuse of language induces evil in the soul.”
We can see that idea manifesting every day on the Right.
So now Tommy Boy is playing dress-up just like the Secretary of Hair Extensions.
