This strikes me – almost by definition – as consistent with all motivation on The Right, going back to its historical emergence as a political concept (when reactionary men in powdered wigs sought a return to aristocracy and established religion) all the way through its contemporary incarnations (of nationalism, anti-immigration, and racism).
Right-wing political thought almost inherently seems one of emotions related to protecting tribe.
It’s hard (for me at least) to think of the political right in any other way.
Yes. The pests in my yard up here in Port Townsend WA are deer who shit and drop fawns in my yard, and eat anything you’d want to grow that doesn’t have an 8 foot fence.
It doesn’t seem to be an unusual path. But I’ve become skeptical of the self reported conversions you get from this kind of prominent conservative. I wonder if there isn’t a recognition of the excellent narrative aspect of it. For Christian societies it echo Paul’s road to Damascus and the scales falling from his eyes. I don’t disagree with your analysis of adherence to a politics or ideology as being more emotional and tribal than rational. I just suspect that there is a rather cynical desire to pump up the drama for their story and their “enlightenment.”
OT: I retired from a life working first in editorial photography (magazines and books) and then later shifted into advertising photography, because that’s where there was enough income to support a family. Still hand to mouth, freelance with 90 day payment schedules on an ad campaign because the creatives always get paid last. But it was enough to live a middle class life on.
Here’s an interview with Zuckerberg about how he and the other tech oligarchs are going to destroy that career path along with graphic artists with AI generated content. We’ve known this was coming, but he really let the cat out of the bag here.
I’m so glad I got out when I did. I feel sorry for the young folks who want a career in photography or graphics art now, where they can actually make a decent living.
lot of people headed for the exits because so many different components of the Department of Labor have been threatened by reduction in forces [Rifs],” said an employee at the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), a key government data agency, who requested to remain anonymous for fear of retaliation. “God only knows how much smaller it will be when the Rifs are announced.”
The BLS is the bureau that produces job creation and unemployment stats. Prepare for “bogosities.” In the past, BLS stats were gold standard. Probably not anymore. The regime is almost certain to cook the books.
