President Donald Trump increased the scope of his assault against the government’s anti-racism workplace trainings on white privilege on Tuesday night with an executive order banning government contractors from holding the trainings.
How is this even legal? Trump is POTUS, thus the chief executive of the US government, but businesses that have government contractors are private entities.
The government can and does require many things for them (fair hiring practices, etc.) to qualify to contract with the government. The kicker here is that it doesn’t cost the government a dime for contractors to conduct these programs. This is just a flat-out attempt to foment more racism.
In the order, Trump claimed that trainings that discuss the disproportionate amount of power afforded to white men “perpetuates racial stereotypes and division and can use subtle coercive pressure to ensure conformity of viewpoint.”]
In best Keanu Reeves voice:
By banning the training, you have become the training.
Doesn’t make much sense, though. Not like this will get through the noise of everything else, and most of his supporters aren’t going to care about some stupid powerpoint presentation.
It is weird but perhaps he believes this action will appeal to the suburbs? It certainly won’t where I live. Suburbs east of Lake Washington maybe more diverse than the City of Seattle. I don’t know how it looks in the rest of the country though.
Honestly, this is probably just Miller trying to push all of his racist agenda while he still can, doubt they’ve put any real thought into how this would play out or be marketed.
Perhaps there is an argument along the lines of An Essay on the Principle of Population that Trump is white privilege’s Malthusian catastrophe, breaking the cycle of incremental steps forward and slides backward.
But no, not in any world or according to any theory has Trump done anything positive for any race except arguably the “Wannabe Aryan” one.
It’s not the the actual accomplishments. It’s the attitude that they love. It’s the same attitude of the crazy uncle or the guy at the bar: “Run over protesters” , “Shoot journalists” , “beat up hippies”, “ban muslims”, “deport mexicans”, “abolish affirmative action”. The wisdom or effectiveness is irrelevant, Trump says what his supporters have been thinking for a long time.
Most of this nation, or its continental predecessors, has been racist to the bone going back to the 1500s. Pick any non-white, non-Christian peoples, already here or those arriving, and they’ve been murdered, oppressed, persecuted, prosecuted, imprisoned and robbed of their dignity and wealth. Routinely. To this day.
Blind love of one’s country is a misguided civic virtue.
